Customs Broker - AZ

TLDR

Facilitates import/export compliance, prepares documentation, and coordinates with authorities to ensure smooth, compliant cross-border shipments.

Key responsibilities

Responsible for facilitating the import and export of goods by ensuring compliance with all relevant customs laws and regulations. Involving preparing and submitting all necessary import/export documentation, classifying goods, calculating and arranging payment for duties and taxes, and acting as a liaison between clients and customs authorities to ensure smooth and legal clearance of shipments across international borders.

Documentation and clearance

  • Preparation and submission: Preparing and submitting customs declarations and all supporting documentation to the customs authorities.
  • Document management: Managing documents required for clearance, including but not limited to
    • Commercial invoices and packing lists
    • Waybills
    • Certificates of origin, conformity, quality, sanitary, and phytosanitary reports
    • Import and export licenses or permits
  • Representation: Representing the importer or exporter in all dealings with customs officials. 


Compliance and advisory

  • Regulatory advice: Advising customers on import and export restrictions, license requirements, and other customs-related matters.
  • Staying current: Continuously updating customers' and Trans Globe's knowledge of Azerbaijan's evolving trade regulations, tariff rates, and customs procedures.
  • Risk management: Helping customers to navigate regulatory challenges and avoid penalties, fines, or shipment delays due to non-compliance. 


Calculation and payment

  • Duty and tax calculation: Classifying goods according to the Harmonized System (HS) codes to accurately calculate and quote all applicable duties, excise taxes, and Value Added Tax (VAT).
  • Payment processing: Arranging for the payment of all customs payments.
  • Cost optimization: Analyzing payment options and clearance schemes to help customers optimize and potentially reduce customs expenses. 


Logistics coordination 

  • Liaison with authorities: Serving as the primary point of contact with Azerbaijani customs authorities and other relevant government agencies to resolve any issues and facilitate clearance.
  • Carrier coordination: Coordinating with freight forwarders and shipping carriers to ensure the efficient transportation of goods from their arrival point to their final destination.
  • Terminal/warehouse coordination: Arranging bonded warehousing and distribution of goods as needed. 



Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 year of similar role experience.
  • Brokerage license
  • Knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and Incoterms.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Problem-solving abilities and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Prioritize workload efficiently.



Work Environment:

  • Remote-based role for Azerbaijan residents with frequent visits to customs posts, warehouses and terminals.
