Data Engineer

We are looking for a Data Engineer who can help us make our BI infrastructure, automations, data models, and business-critical pipelines more reliable, better documented, and easier to scale.

This role sits inside Engineering and reports to our Head of Engineering, while working closely with BI, Growth, Product, Finance, Operations, and Business Development.

About this role

We are looking for someone to own and improve the technical foundations that support BI, Growth, Product, Finance, Operations, and Business Development.

The right person will be hands-on with SQL, Python, pipelines, data models, refresh processes, and automation. You should enjoy debugging data issues, improving data reliability, documenting how things work, and reducing dependency on manual processes.

You will work closely with our Head of Engineering, our Data Analyst, Product, Growth, Finance, and Operations. Your work will help the company trust its numbers, automate recurring work, and move faster when building data-driven features and internal tools.

What you will own

Data pipelines and refresh processes

• Own and maintain critical data pipelines, ETLs, and refresh processes
• Maintain and improve dbt models, Airflow jobs, and data transformations
• Make sure key dashboards and reports are fed by reliable data sources
• Monitor pipeline failures and fix recurring issues
• Improve how we detect, understand, and resolve data failures

Data models and BI infrastructure

• Maintain and improve the data models that power BI reporting
• Help clean up unused or duplicated BI tables, calculated fields, and data sources
• Improve the structure and documentation of our database and BI layer
• Support reliable connections between production data, BI tables, Tableau, Salesforce, Google Ads, PostHog, and other systems
• Reduce dependency on undocumented logic or local files

Automation and internal workflows

• Improve automation around recurring BI and reporting workflows
• Support business-critical automations and algorithms where data infrastructure is involved
• Work on areas such as Salesforce tasks, pros ranking, bonus logic, marketing costs, targets, and other internal data-driven processes
• Help move local scripts and files into proper version-controlled repositories
• Use AI tools to work faster, document better, and improve technical output

Data quality and debugging

• Add or improve checks that help us catch data issues early
• Investigate problems from source system to final dashboard or business output
• Document common failure modes and how to fix them
• Create practical runbooks for recurring issues
• Help the Data Analyst and business teams understand when a number is wrong because of a data issue rather than a business issue

Collaboration with Engineering and BI

• Work closely with the Head of Engineering on technical quality, code standards, and maintainability
• Work closely with the Data Analyst to make reporting faster and more reliable
• Support Product and Tech when event tracking, PostHog data, or source data quality affects measurement
• Support Growth and Operations when automation or data pipelines affect business execution

What success looks like

In your first months, you will have:

• Taken ownership of our most critical data pipelines, refreshes, and technical BI processes
• Helped keep daily, weekly, and monthly BI reporting running reliably
• Documented the most important data models, pipelines, and failure points
• Made data failures easier to detect, understand, and fix
• Reduced manual work in recurring BI or operational processes
• Helped the company become less dependent on individual knowledge for critical data infrastructure

Requirements

What we are looking for

Must-have

• Strong SQL skills
• Python experience
• Experience building, maintaining, or debugging data pipelines, ETLs, or data transformations
• Experience with data modelling or analytical datasets
• Comfort investigating data issues from source system to final output
• Experience with Git / GitLab / GitHub or similar version control
• Ability to write clear technical documentation
• Hands-on mentality, with willingness to investigate, build, debug, and explain
• Strong ownership, with ability to ask good questions and move work forward without perfect instructions
• Comfortable using AI tools, e.g. LLMs for SQL, code, debugging, documentation, and testing, to ship faster

Nice to have

• Experience with dbt
• Experience with Airflow or another orchestration tool
• Experience with PostgreSQL
• Experience with Tableau data sources or BI-tool data models
• Experience with PostHog or event-tracking systems
• Experience with Docker/Kubernetes or basic infrastructure workflows
• Experience with data quality testing
• Experience with APIs, integrations, or data syncs
• Experience supporting marketplace, product, growth, finance, or operational analytics
• Familiarity with internal automations, business rules, or algorithmic workflows
