Development Engineer, User Interface

In Farmington Hills, Michigan, the focus is on Powertrain and eDrive technology as well as in Long Beach, where the teams test durability of the latest driver assistant and telematic systems. The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.

Our Long Beach office is seeking a testing and validation expert, ideally with previous experience in testing and validation of the user interface of infotainment systems, to support the development testing of cutting-edge technology applied in projects that will shape the future of Mercedes-Benz vehicles. In this role, you will be responsible for test planning, test execution and documentation. You will be working closely with the development team to support the product development as well as pre analysis of log files for an evaluation and proposal of algorithm adjustments to ameliorate undesired learning behavior.

The testing will be conducted with prototype vehicles of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. The majority of testing locations are in the Southern California area however, national travel between our MBRDAN offices is required in some cases.

The person should also constantly re-evaluate the priorities based on the customer feedback, market changes and business priorities as per ISO-9001 standards. This position provides a comfortable work environment where people enjoy working together.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to the business unit US Experience by supporting the testing, verification, and validation of telematics components, including General User Interface, Instrument Cluster, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, Speech Dialog System (SDS) and delivering feedback to system integration teams
  • Assist with resolving technical problems, report errors, support documentation and traces, and promptly communicate technical and quality related issues obtained from the testing, validation and verification process to US Experience teams and Mercedes RD HQ
  • Regularly participate in meetings and scheduled test drives. Organize meetings with Mercedes RD HQ responsible as necessary
  • Ensure testing procedures, test cases, engineering tools, and diagnostic equipment are maintained and configured/revised accordingly with requirements from Mercedes RD HQ
  • Collaborate closely with software development teams to perform Partial/Full Regression, Specific tests focused on changes, acceptance testing, integration testing, and defect reproduction
  • Partner closely with internal US Experience teams, respective Mercedes RD HQ teams, suppliers, and business partners to ensure pertinent test results are provided in a timely manner
  • Provide support for development workshops and technical support to internal Telematics Test House teams and respective Mercedes RD HQ teams

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering consider; Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field of study
  • Experience in the development or validation of embedded systems in the automotive or consumer electronics industries, or similar experience
  • 3 years of experience required
  • Ability to understand software and hardware requirements and vehicle electrical system architectures
  • Working knowledge of Apple CarPlay certification testing/process
  • Detail oriented and ability to follow through on tasks with minimal supervision
  • French language skills
  • Driving a vehicle is required for this position
  • Frequent use of speech, vision, hearing, use of hands for computer use and presentations
  • Frequent sitting, standing and reaching with hands

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier work experience
  • Experience with embedded software or automotive systems
  • Strong technical knowledge of Mercedes-Benz vehicles
  • Background in HMI and User Interface

The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $99,100 - $124,000.
