Lead MongoDB’s core infrastructure and data warehousing capabilities that help drive our growth to and beyond $1BN annual revenue

The Technical Operations department is a group of technical teams whose vision is to unleash the power of MongoDB employees with the best self-service, consumable services available. The services, platforms, and tools we manage are essential to MongoDB’s day-to-day operations and render our employees more productive than peers at other companies.

Our ideal candidate will have

• Experience managing technical people and engineering managers
• An intrinsic capability to build teams and keep engineers and managers engaged
• Recruiting experiences from all backgrounds with interview consistency and without bias
• Opinions on what makes effective programming and testing practices
• Experience building inclusive team cultures
• Ability to accurately schedule and plan software projects
• A vehement aversion to dogmatism
• Deeply rooted passion for building great products that matter
• First-hand knowledge of data engineering and warehousing architectures
  

Position Expectations

• Manage the Tools, DevOps, and Data Warehouse teams
• Empower the engineers and teams you manage to make the biggest impact possible for the company while reaching their professional development goals
• Own new and existing projects across our DevOps, Tools, and Data Warehouse services.
• Integrate with Product, Security, Business Systems, BI/Analytics, and across MongoDB to deliver high impact results that improve the way MongoDB works
• Shape methodology for building self-service tooling and scoping requirements, determining feasibility, assessing costs, setting success and failure metrics
• Be a partner for cross-functional teams including Cloud, Server, Product Management, and other partner teams to deliver the best products available

Success Measures

• In 3 months you’ll have a deep understanding of your team’s motivations, value prop to the company, and a roadmap for the next 12 months
• In 6 months you’ll have grown your teams to address key risks, improve competencies, and accelerate roadmap delivery or expand scope
• In 12 months you’ll have delivered 2 to 3 projects that measurably improve the capabilities of teams outside of TechOps
• People: Recruit, retain, train and motivate your team
• Communication:  Successfully communicate the product roadmap internally and externally, while having the ability to communicate complex technical issues simply and convincingly to a wide range of audiences
• Drive long term vision:  Maintain 3 year product strawman for TechOps Engineering
• Customer Obsession: Collect and analyze feedback from both internal and external sources so we deepen our understanding of our employees’ needs
