HeliosX

Director of Operations and Logistics

About Us

HeliosX is a group of HealthTech start-ups with fast-growing operations in the UK and USA. We are dedicated to improving the quality, accessibility, and affordability of healthcare for all, and we're doing this through a market-disrupting combination of technology, science, and excellent clinical care. Our brands include Dermatica (personalised prescription skincare), MedExpress, ZipHealth, and RocketRx.

The Role

The Director of Operations and Logistics is a brand new position at HeliosX, created to ensure the business is equipped to handle our continued scaling and success globally. You will provide leadership, structure, and direction across all physical operations globally including supply chain, warehouse, manufacturing, pharmacy, and fulfilment.

Historically, HeliosX’s Operations have been split geographically, but we’re now looking to create centres of excellence by business function, which will be led by this role. It will suit somebody motivated by the challenge of building and refining a global Operations unit that is capable of meeting customer demand in rapidly scaling business.

This is a full time, permanent role. Whilst we can entertain a fully remote candidate, you must be based in either the UK or the US. Unfortunately, we are unable to sponsor a visa, so you must have the right to work in either/both of those locations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and own the strategy for supply chain, warehouse, manufacturing, pharmacy, and fulfilment globally, in line with the overall company strategy, and work with department heads to translate this into OKRs and roadmaps.
  • Anticipate business needs in the context of the overall company strategy and ensure our people/teams, processes, infrastructure, and technology are right-sized and appropriate to deliver against current and future growth targets.
  • Lead on scoping, planning, and set-up of physical operations required to launch in new markets, across supply chain, warehouse, manufacturing, pharmacy, and fulfilment.
  • Set the agenda around the use of systems, automation and technology to improve internal pharmacy and manufacturing processes and scale operations more efficiently.
  • Build and own a clear strategy around fulfilment, including mix of partners and service levels, to provide reliable and expedient delivery to customers in a cost effective way.
  • Stay abreast of the overall budget across physical operations activities globally, and have a laser focus on cost to serve.
  • Set the structure of all teams within physical operations and provide leadership/line management to direct and indirect reports; ensure teams are optimally set up to deliver for customers on time and to all SLAs.
  • Develop and own the measurement framework, including all KPIs, for physical operations; use data to inform decisions about team structure, process improvement, and performance measurement; provide regular reporting to senior leadership.
  • Ensure all regulatory and compliance requirements are adhered to through regular process review, inspection, and audit; where possible, build open dialogues with regulators in different markets.
  • Lead by example to embed a continuous improvement mindset across the group, emphasising quality control, process optimisation, and cost efficiency.

Requirements

  • Significant experience leading physical operations in a high-growth or scaling environment.
  • Extensive experience working within a pharmacy/healthcare setting is an advantage; ideally you will have exposure to this in both UK and US markets.
  • Experience scaling and leading large, geographically dispersed teams (remote and on-site); you’ll know how to motivate, coach, and develop.
  • Experience owning a large budget and evidence of applying strong commercial acumen in an operational setting.
  • Proven ability to work independently with a high degree of accountability, while also showing exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with other stakeholders to drive business outcomes.
  • Data driven with examples of having used insights to steer decision making regarding complex business problems (strong proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets).
  • Excellent project management skills with a demonstrated ability to design and implement strategies that drive business results in a structured manner.
  • Ability to quickly move from high-level conversations into detailed operational discussions to drive business execution.

Whilst not essential, any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Extensive experience working within a pharmacy/healthcare setting, with knowledge of UK and/or US pharmacy regulation considered an advantage.
