LinkedIn is looking for a Director-level candidate to lead a critical part of our Performance Engineering Team. We are looking for someone who is not only a talented leader, but who also has technical depth and experience. The Foundation Engineering team builds many of the infrastructure and platforms used by our own developers and customers. As a leader for Performance team you will influence our engineering teams in the development of high performance and scalable systems, and identify & pursue performance optimizations of existing products and infrastructure.
This role is a great opportunity for someone who is experienced in performance engineering, to directly impact the experience of millions of active users. You will also have the opportunity to influence the way engineering teams approach performance and help build a culture of Performance across LinkedIn’s engineering teams. Teams will be looking to you as an authority for measuring and understanding performance.
You will be exposed to many different technologies, architectures, and systems hosted in state-of-the-art data centers across the globe.
Responsibilities:
Determine what performance metrics and telemetry needs to be collected, build robust and massive data pipelines to process them, and build world-class tools to surface this information in an actionable way to other engineering teams.
Build and operate a realtime performance alerting and automated root cause analysis system for all LinkedIn products across all platforms.
Craft a long term vision, strategy for building a culture of performance at LinkedIn.
Hire and retain world-class engineers by providing career growth, mentoring, and high impact projects, while taking intelligent risks to improve the way work is done.
Basic Qualifications
- A./B.S. Degree or higher, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- At least ten years of software engineering, systems engineering or similar experience with 5+ years of people management experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in design and development of performant, highly available, scalable web applications
- Understanding of common performance patterns and anti-patterns in distributed systems.
- An understanding of the benefits & challenges of typical web application patterns, SOA, microservices & multi-tier/serverless architectures.
- Ability to communicate complex research in a clear, precise, and actionable manner
- Experience managing team members in remote locations
