Director, People Experience

Scribd is looking for a passionate leader to define, shape, drive, and deliver our Employee Experience Strategy.  Our People Experience (PeopleX) team creates the foundation for our employees to thrive and do the very best work of their careers. Using a human-centered approach, the Director of People Experience will seek to deeply understand how employees experience working at Scribd and will be responsible for making a measurable impact on our culture.   

Scribd has a strong & dynamic culture, and we are looking for an individual who can bring fresh ideas to the table as the ‘world of work’ evolves and as our company scales. Some of the key areas of responsibility for this position include, but are not limited to: Onboarding, Engagement & Retention, Wellbeing, Future of Work, Recognition Program, Employee Events (Business, Social, and Philanthropic), Employee Communications, Real Estate & Workplace Strategy, and Sustainability. 

The People Experience department sits within the People Team, alongside HR & Talent (Recruiting). The Director of People Experience will report to the Chief People Officer and will own and drive the functional responsibilities of the team across the entirety of the Employee Experience sphere. This role will collaborate closely with employees, managers, leaders, and the broader People team. To start, this role will have three direct reports. The evolution of the team and the structure of the PeopleX department will be at the discretion of the Director, in partnership with the CPO. 

What will the Director of People Experience do?

  • Play a key role in Scribd’s overall People Strategy 
  • Work with, learn from, and mentor other team members
  • Manage and develop the members of the People Experience team 
  • Partner with teammates, leaders, and stakeholders to develop a deep understanding of Scribd’s culture, its current and emerging people challenges and opportunities; help identify priorities and develop insights and strategy
  • Share research and insights from both inside and outside the organization; closely monitor industry trends; make proactive and progressive recommendations on people experience strategy
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of our existing PeopleX programs 
  • Be a thought partner to the Chief People Officer, and other key stakeholders

What are the key focus areas for the Director of People Experience?

  • Culture & Connection
  • Imagine, create, and own programs, initiatives, and practices to strengthen our culture
  • Curate, promote, and enable moments for employees to CONNECT with Scribd, and with each other, in a meaningful way
  • Identify Scribd cultural norms and share insights that may be impacting culture and organizational effectiveness
  • Enthusiastically research and build progressive programs to maintain culture, collaboration and connections
  • Champion and reinforce company values at all points in the employee lifecycle 
  • Oversee regular, clear communications to employees regarding all people-related announcements, initiatives, changes, etc. 

  • Onboarding
  • Oversee our suite of onboarding programs and applications
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current program structure, components, cadence, communications, etc. 
  • Partner with Talent & HR teams to further enhance the overall employee experience during onboarding

  • Employee Engagement & Satisfaction
  • Help drive analysis and actionable insights from our Employee Pulse survey 
  • Optimize and drive opportunities for employee listening
  • Cultivate a vibrant and engaging work environment that attracts and retains Scribd’s top talent
  • Monitor employee sentiment, decipher intrinsic and extrinsic motivators and make suggestions on people programs that will move the needle on employee engagement
  • Promote, encourage, and measure Manager participation in engagement activities 
  • Help develop a formal recognition and reward program aligned with company values
  • Partner closely with HRBPs on engagement feedback and initiatives

  • Employee Events
  • Design employee-focused events and create memorable moments of connection, that are aligned with our cultural values Lead the curation and execution of various company-wide events which can be business, social, philanthropic or wellness related (ex: company-wide meetings, Hack weeks, holiday celebrations, Volunteer Days, ERG events, social meet-ups, etc.)
  • Oversee the decisions and designs (in partnership with our design team) for all event related company swag, awards, and gifts
  • Collect event feedback, and track data related to participation & engagement to best inform future programming
  • Direct the PeopleX team on the annual event calendar, programming strategy, and budget considerations

  • Wellbeing
  • Enhance current wellbeing offering through creative, effective & engaging activation strategies 
  • Build comprehensive programming to consider the “whole self” of employees including emotional wellbeing, physical fitness, financial security, environmental health, psychological safety, and more
  • Promote fulfilling philanthropic opportunities for employees to give back to our community
  • Use data from pulse surveys and listening activities to inform wellbeing priorities
  • Partner with our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to uncover the wellness needs of our employee groups to ensure an equitable and inclusive offering for all employees
  • Partner with HR during times of social crisis, and other external events to provide impromptu resources & support where and when it’s needed most

  • Future of Work
  • Inform the evolution of Scribd Flex (our Future of Work program) through quantitative and qualitative analysis to provide insights on effectiveness, progress, gaps, and/or risks related to employees working with geographically dispersed teams in a mix of remote, hybrid, and in-office settings
  • Promote an equitable experience for all employees regardless of geography
  • Strategize new technologies, techniques, and ways of working to support the future of work
  • Stay on top of industry trends and progressive approaches to keeping employees connected, energized, and thriving in a dispersed environment
  • Partner with leaders to monitor overall organizational health (productivity, engagement,  fatigue, etc) as it relates to the way we work

  • Real Estate & Workplace
  • Oversee the day-to-day management and operations of our physical office locations 
  • Rethink how we use our office space in a future framed by Scribd Flex
  • Partner with executive team to make decisions on future real estate needs and investments
  • Direct the PeopleX team on day-to-day office related decisions and budget considerations

  • Sustainability
  • Participate in our company-wide sustainability efforts, acting as a representative for the People team, as we build our first ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) program

  • Skilled in active listening; listens with compassion and turns insights into action

  • A flair for communication and building relationships along with a desire to mentor and guide with a bias to excellence Impeccable ethics and judgment when dealing with confidential data
  • 10+ years combined experience in the HR/Talent/People Experience space, with a broad range of exposure to include culture, wellbeing, engagement, and retention - preferably in the technology space
