Discretionary Junior Trading Intern

Our Trading Team is looking for dedicated Discretionary Junior Trading Interns to take on a full-time internship this summer. We’re looking for candidates from any discipline—we pride ourselves on having diverse backgrounds on our team, ranging from traditional business and finance to philosophy and history—that can think quickly, have a good grasp on current events and passion for geopolitics. This is an entry-level role, as we use the internship period to teach our new hires how to trade, using our strategy and how we follow the markets. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of qualitative trading strategies, leveraging our research team and working with cutting-edge technologies. This internship opportunity may lead to a full-time position upon graduation.

What you’ll be working on:

• Monitoring fundamental, geopolitical, and macroeconomic news and its impact across financial markets
• Developing and executing trading strategies for various themes, asset classes, and regions.
• Researching and analyzing trends across major financial markets and cultivating a thorough understanding of current world events
• Honing skills such as patience, discipline, introspection, critical thinking, self-confidence

You’ll feel right at home if you…

• Are pursuing a bachelor's or master's and have an expected graduation date between December 2024 and June 2025
• Are interested in learning how to trade – a background in trading is not required
• Have a passion for geopolitics and current events
• Have a strong interest in learning about global markets and world economies
• Are flexible with varying work schedules depending on world events – successful candidates must be comfortable working off hours to accommodate global markets
• Are able to work well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment and have the ability to work under pressure
• Have excellent written and communication skills

What to expect during the internship?

• Learn how to trade: Our goal is to provide you with the full picture of what it means and takes to perform as a trader on our desk. This will allow you to see if you're passionate about pursuing a trading career with our team full-time.
• Community: Throughout the summer, we host a variety of educational, social and team-building activities to foster friendship and camaraderie.
• Housing: DRW provides fully furnished apartments located close to the office making your morning commute as easy as possible.
• Mentorship: You'll build a professional relationship with an experienced mentor in your field. Mentors and mentees meet to discuss goals, challenges and professional development and explore the city together at our mentor outings.
• Education: As the trading industry continually evolves, both in terms of new products and transaction methods, the future will present us with unique opportunities and challenges. You’ll complete an options course taught by an experienced trader and participate in a technology immersion course to better understand how technology and trading intersect.
