Dispatch Manager

takealot.com, a leading South African online retailer, is looking for a highly talented Dispatch Manager to join our team at our Distribution Centre in Cape Town.

This position reports to the DC General Manager.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the dispatch area, staff and processes, in order to facilitate and ensure smooth and timeous dispatches and deliveries
  • Manage Dispatch Shift Managers to ensure they are performing their duties in accordance within company standards and policies
  • Managing all exceptional items and circumstances so as to ensure no undue bottlenecks, hold ups or any other operational inefficiencies
  • Ensuring that full traceability and accountability is maintained throughout the receiving and dispatching procedures
  • Develop and maintain effective and efficient work processes and procedures in line with company objectives
  • Ensuring that adequate staff are present and on duty for the daily tasks
  • Develop and motivate the entire Team
  • Other tasks deemed suitable based on knowledge and experience as required by the General Manager.
  • Monitor Dispatch Reports
  • Plan and manage staff complement
  • Ensure that the Team functions within the budget allocated
  • Discipline the employees according to Company Policy and Labour Act
  • Responsible for hiring, terminating, reviewing, mentoring and training of all employees in Dispatch
  • Prepares input for performance evaluations including development and maintenance of accurate records
  • Has a significant goal to maximize work performance and improve technical productivity
  • Monitor Dispatch Operations to ensure that employees comply with administrative policies, procedures and safety rules.
  • Encourage and recognize superior performance
  • Monitor the Team to adhere and complete work within daily cut offs – SD, GE & Promised delivery dates
  • Producing regular reports and statistics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, as required

Attributes required:

  • Knowledge of tracking system or other similar business system.
  • Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and email software.
  • Familiarity with OH&S and safe work practices
  • Experience using scanners and other logistics technologies
  • Proven people management skills
  • Knowledge of Shift rotation system
  • Ability to motivate, train and delegate employees
  • A highly motivated individual with the ability to work any time without direct supervision, and analyse and problem solve in a high volume work environment
  • Ability to make quick decisions within defined span of control
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Accountable for work performed in Dispatch operations
  • Customer focused and ensures that all 3PL on site works within the SOP
  • Sound communication skills
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast paced changing environment
  • Maintaining a level of standard within the KPI’s and objectives set.
  • Conduct to the highest degree of ethics and integrity
  • Creative thinking and openness to new challenges
  • Appreciating diversity in the workplace and treating everyone with courtesy and respect

  • Able to listen to all staff in Dispatch related to new ideas regarding procedures/processes

Qualifications:

  • Certificate / Diploma in Logistics/Supply Chain
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in full Dispatch operations in a management role
  • Experience in an FMCG environment/Distribution Centre/Large Business, high volume environment
