Natilus

Engineering Intern

Natilus is seeking talented engineering students to join our engineering deparment. The engineering interns will design, build, and test prototype experimental aircraft in a fast-paced research and development environment, and with significant vertical responsibility. The work will span preliminary design, part and assembly design, system design, manufacturing support, and flight test engineering support. Typically, this work includes design and manufacture of the wing, fuselage, empennage, control surface structures, systems, aerodynamics and their integration into the overall vehicle.

Natilus is building a large 19,000lb unmanned aerial vehicle powered by twin turbo props. It is a blended wing body with the sole purpose of carrying cargo. It will be the first of its kind and the first BWB put into production.

The position is based out of San Diego and is a full time 3 month internship. No part time arrangements will be considered.

US Citzens or Permanent Residents may apply.

Requirements

  • One year away from graduation in a aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering program (bachelor or master)
  • Previous intern or co-op experience

Desired Experience

  • Dedicated coursework in at least one of the following areas: mechanics of materials, aircraft structures, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, or turbo-machinery
  • Experience in 3D modeling with industry standard software i. e. CATIA, SolidWorks, Unigraphics/NX
  • Demonstrated detailed part design including part drawing creation using geometric dimension and tolerance standards
  • Demonstrated composite structure design, analysis, and manufacturing experience
  • Mathematical modeling of complex systems using MATLAB/Simulink
  • Fitment element modeling and mesh generation
  • Computational fluid dynamics modeling and mesh generation

Natilus is focused on developing blended-wing-body aircraft that significantly enhance the efficiency of air travel. Designed for both commercial and defense applications, these innovative aircraft not only promise exceptional fuel efficiency and increased payload capacity but also seamlessly integrate with existing airport infrastructure, paving the way for a more sustainable aviation future.
