What we’re working on at Slang
Slang started at MIT as a research project on using AI and NLP to make learning a new language as efficient as possible. Our technology powers a highly adaptive e-learning platform that offers an unprecedented variety of specialized English courses and proficiency tests for career development in over one hundred fields like Sales, Finance, Logistics, Medicine, and Law. With just a small team, we’ve already created the largest professional English offering in the world. Now, we’re scaling up to release 1,000 more courses over the next three years.
What this role is about
If you’re interested in working with companies from all across Central and South America, this is the job for you! In this role, you’ll be working with different companies that have chosen to take their professional English to a whole new level with Slang. As a complement to our digital product, we offer virtual live sessions that aim to help users become more proficient and develop the conversational skills needed to succeed in their workplaces. Slang is a product-driven startup, which, to us, means that our products are at the center of our company vision. We’re aiming to build products that sell themselves, and we expect you to contribute to our vision with your experience and knowledge of language learning and by helping us better understand our users' learning needs. As a English Consultant, you'll be in charge of teaching (lesson planning, material creation), keeping attendance records, being responsible for having all your reports and materials up-to-date and being actively involved in the proposal of activities that increase the app usage during the sessions. Asides from your teaching duties, you'll also get the chance to collaborate cross-functionally as part of the Product Team’s day-to-day operations. You will assist other members of the team with logistic and strategic projects. If you are assertive when it comes to feedback, organized, punctual, resourceful and strategic, respectful, honest, and flexible with change, then we are waiting for you!
Education & Experience required:
- 2+ years of experience in English teaching and lesson planning
- English oral communication and writing skills (C1 certified with IELTS, TOEFL, or any other valid examination in the country)
- Bachelor's degree in Modern languages or related fields or TESOL, TEFL, or similar certificates
- Excellent discipline, focus, and attention to detail, especially when charged with working autonomously
- Problem-solving and EdTech tools skills and knowledge
- Empathy and the ability to form great interpersonal relationships with users and colleagues
- Experience in educational materials design (presentations, webinars, workshops, etc.)
- Experience in educational material design (presentations, webinars, workshops, etc), virtual tools such as Zoom and Google Meet, and online teaching
- Excel/Google Sheets basic/intermediate skills
- A plus: Strong Spanish communication skills
- 80+ hours of availability per week
Required Soft Skills:
- Passionate about language learning and helping learners achieve their professional goals
- Flexibility and growth mindset - ability to adapt to change quickly to the needs of learners, business needs and logistical considerations
- Excellent discipline, focus, and attention to detail, especially when charged with working autonomously
- Ability to find your way around new apps and platforms, even if you haven’t used them before
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, successfully completing day-to-day assignments
- Empathy and the ability to form great interpersonal relationships with users and colleagues
- Accountable for live sessions - Businesses are depending on our teachers to arrive on time and conduct meaningful
