⚡️ Your mission
The mission of the Finance Assistant is to aid the smooth running of our financial operations and help us evolve our processes as we scale.
🦸♀️ How you will contribute
- Support in the preparation of month end accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow), including posting accounting journals, and of financial reports for chapter leads and external investors
- You will be responsible for our bank reconciliations in Xero, including ensuring payments from our payment gateway providers are correctly reconciled
- Assist in ensuring our partners are invoiced accurately and respond to partner finance queries.
- You'll follow up with partners with overdue accounts, to collect payment, including liaising with our Customer Success team to ensure we have all the relevant information
- Own the Accounts Payable function, ensuring supplier payments are correctly approved and process them for payment
- Support in the preparation of HMRC tax filings such as VAT returns, PAYE payroll submissions and R&D claims
- Working closely with the Finance Manager and Finance Director, you will assist with other ad-hoc projects to improve our processes
Requirements

You are excited, capable and hungry to be a part of a highly performing finance function in a high-growth social startup
- You are working towards an accountancy qualification (ACA/ACCA or equivalent)
- You have at least 2 years of experience working in the finance function of a fast-paced, high-growth business
- You are experienced in using Xero
- You are extremely rigorous, autonomous and entrepreneurial
- You 100% adhere to our values and the way we work

You will first meet Jack. There is nothing to prepare for this chat, it is a chance to learn more about Birdie and to tell us all about you!
2. The Expertise Interview 💡
Now it's time to meet Beth & Andrew! This interview will be more focused on technical skills and questions.
They will be the perfect people to field your role specific questions. It is a chance for us to explore your experiences, how you work and where you may fit in.
3. The Values Interview 💬
Here you will meet a member of the Birdie team from a different chapter. This conversation allows us to explore your motivations, values and how you can be a great add on to Birdie.
4. Meet a Co Founder 🤝
The final step in the process gives you the chance to meet one of our cofounders! You will spend 45 minutes with Max , Abeed or Raj. A great opportunity to ask any final questions and learn more about how Birdie was born!!

Our salary packages are competitive, the role is £35k. We also grant generous stock options to any permanent employee at the end of the probation period. We do adjust salaries based on the cost of living index for employees based outside of the UK.

Highly favourable parental leave policy; once you have spent twelve consecutive months on our payroll, primary caregivers are entitled to 26 weeks of parental leave at 100% of your usual salary and secondary caregivers are entitled to 12 weeks of parental leave, at 100% of your usual salary.
🧘 Wellbeing Leave 10 days of paid leave outside of our generous Sick Leave policy, for when you need to revive and reset.
🐣 Fertility Leave Birdie recognises the emotional and physical challenges which may arise during fertility treatments, and supports all Birdies by offering 5 additional paid days of leave.
