We are looking for a Web Engineer to play an important role on one of our fast moving, multi-functional teams. Wattpad runs on a large distributed system that handles 45k requests every second; our frontend runs on React/ Backbone. Your work will affect and be seen by millions of users; that type of scale is what makes Wattpad unique.
As a Web Engineer, you’ll be responsible for implementing and optimizing Wattpad’s efforts on the entire web product, from the smallest cell phone to the biggest, highest resolution desktop, all worldwide in 55+ languages. The part you’ll play is critical: from coming up with ideas to architecting solutions-you’re able to touch every pixel on the page. You’ll be an integral part of an incredibly smart and diverse team that’s defining and building the newest parts of Wattpad.
What you’ll be doing:
- Writing web applications in Javascript, both on the server and client
- Optimizing the form and function of our app so users keep coming back to Wattpad
- Building responsive experiences for mobile, tablet and desktop
- Collaborating with design and product management to define our next big thing
- Researching new technologies to enhance your efficiency (and improve your life)
- Working with other teams to build out new experiences for all our users
- Measuring real-world user experience, and optimizing this
- Working on an app with massive scale (2 billion daily requests)
What we're looking for:
- At least 4-5 years’ experience with Javascript and core web technologies (HTML/CSS)
- Experience with development using various Javascript frameworks (e.g. Backbone/React)
- Familiarity with server side technologies and back-end frameworks (like Express on Node.js)
- Knowledge of responsive design techniques and accessible markup
- User Obsessed: Interest in user experience, interaction design, UI development, and testing
