Gameplay Programmer

FireForge is seeking an excellent Gameplay Programmer to join our Mission Viejo, CA office. The Gameplay Programmer prototypes, creates and polishes engaging gameplay mechanics. This position reports directly to the Lead Programmer and works with other programmers and the design team to create, test, debug and polish gameplay features. This is a full-time salaried position. You must be legally able to work in the United States.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, implement and test clear and maintainable game system code
• Use coding best practices and participate in regular code reviews
• Work with designers, artists and other personnel as a productive team member
• Help Production accurately plan and estimate tasking and scheduling
• Create of technical documentation
• Refine, debug and optimize gameplay features throughout the project schedule
• Keep current on new programming developments and trends

REQUIREMENTS

SKILLS

• C++ and object oriented design principles
• Understanding of client/server online game technology
• Strong mathematics background
• Ability to rapidly master new tools and technologies
• Strong communication and organization skills
• Self motivated to achieve high quality work
• Work well under stressful conditions

EXPERIENCE

• At least three years of experience in a Game Programming position, and two years in a Gameplay Programming role
• One or more shipped games
• Have worked within a variety of pre-existing code bases
• Ability to take direction and accept critical review of work
• Significant play of a wide range of games

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent work experience

PLUSES

• A passion for playing video games
• An understanding of game design fundamentals including multiplayer balance issues
• Data collection and analysis experience
• Database design experience
