Global Head of Security & Resilience
About this Role:
The Vice President, Global Head of Security & Resilience serves as the global leader of the security department for WeWork and is charged with protecting WeWork’s people, assets and brand. This role will lead, guide and direct Security Operations as well as have strategic oversight over all security initiatives in an effort to ensure that members, employees, and visitors are provided a secure environment that is aligned with expectations of a real estate company offering co-working space. This includes the following areas of focus: emergency management and preparedness, security technology, incident response and reporting, fire and life safety, training, communication, and most importantly world class customer service to our member community. This role will have the following security experience, but not limited to: physical security design, knowledge of security systems, emergency management, complex investigations, protective intelligence, business continuity, new building openings, incident response, and the expertise to build a global security operations center. Strong personnel management and the ability to brief senior-level executives is critical to the success of this role.
Objectives:
The Vice President, Global Head of Security & Resilience develops and implements global security operations, while supporting the other functions’ product lines and business operations; identifies processes and best practices to support strategic goals and drive performance metrics. This role will provide support to business partners, and manage the escalation and communication of security issues to both regional personnel and global leadership. The successful candidate must be comfortable making decisions in a work environment that is customer service oriented, dynamic, fast paced, and constantly evolving.
Core Duties:
- Serves as the subject matter expert, strategic partner and single source of credible sound advice and counsel to all WeWork stakeholders and C-Suite Executives in the area of global security operations.
- Guides the development and implementation of portfolio-wide security policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines to ensure ongoing compliance for the protection of WeWork’s assets with a focus on maintaining established service standards.
- Provides leadership and direction in the development, execution and measurement of security member service standards to ensure optimal service delivery in alignment with WeWork’s standards.
- Identifies emerging hospitality-focused security policies and/or trends to proactively mitigate potential risks and organizational impact.
- Liaises with the Chief Information Officer as it relates to cyber security risks and impacts.
- Partners with risk management and other designated stakeholders on the development and execution of business continuity strategies in response to security events.
- Participates and often leads the management of emergency and incident response, reporting crisis management, and life safety for the entire WeWork global portfolio.
- Advises WeWork’s Global Head of Operations on current and future major security risk points to the organization. Develops and executes strategies to mitigate identified risks.
- Partners with real estate and development stakeholders as to the security requirements of new building openings and growth initiatives: physical security design, standards compliance, security technology, fire and life safety, as well as risk mitigation.
- Leads the evaluation, design, and implementation of security related equipment across the portfolio for existing WeWork locations.
- Leads an investigative division that conducts investigations for due diligence, incidents that impact our member community, vendors and potential partners for WeWork. Collaborate with stakeholders in HR, legal, and Risk as needed.
- Develops, implements and monitors all security programming throughout the company, assisting other departments with projects that require support from a security risk perspective.
- Provides input and direction in the development and monitoring of fiscal budgets, division operations strategies to produce both short term and long-term profitability.
- Develops and manages an operating budget for global security and safety operations.
- Participates in the interview process and advises the selection of prospective regional security leadership.
- Establishes, guides and supervises the performance standards of regional security leadership.
- Identifies and advises upon company-wide security training and development initiatives, with a particular emphasis on life safety, emergency management, and optimizing hospitality-focused member service.
- Maintains relationships and acts as the senior liaison to all local, state and federal law enforcement and other related government agencies.
- Develops mitigation strategies based on comparison statistics including losses, incidents, accidents and addresses systemic issues to ensure best practices in place and standards updated as needed for consistent execution across the WeWork portfolio.
- Leads security compliance throughout the portfolio with standards pertaining to the real estate and hospitality industry.
- Provides ad hoc assistance to regional operations in regards to local disasters, fire and life safety compliance, and support of complex investigations as needed.
- Serves as the primary company system administrator for the Everbridge mass emergency notification system.
- Creates and manages all security planning for WeWork major events and acts as the Incident Commanders during emergency situations.
- Manages security technology as it relates to access control, CCTV systems, and other emergency management systems, ensuring WeWork is utilizing the most efficient and practical systems that support the security environment in our spaces.
- Develops a global security operations center that answers routine and emergency calls, provides general security and safety assistance to WeWork Members, employees, vendors and guests including but not limited to: life safety incidents (medical, safety, natural disasters, etc.), security officer deployment, Incident Response Teams, facilities, IT issues, police, fire and EMS personnel, and technical security systems assistance.
- Evaluates global incidents that may impact members, employees or assets, and escalates accordingly to other business units within corporate headquarters (HR, IT, Public Relations, Legal, Facilities, Operations, etc.).
- Collaborates with other internal business leaders regarding incident reports related to theft, urgent terminations, medical incidents, asset management, etc.
- Interfaces with WeWork’s Enterprise Members, ensuring all of their security requests are addressed and formulates tailored security solutions to best support their business needs.
- Implement a full-time executive protection program for the CEO and ad hoc support for other C-Suite executives.
- Build, lead and develop a global security team of over 25 people spanning the globe. -
Minimum Experience & Requirements:
- Masters in related fields: Business Management, International Relations/Law, Criminal Justice, etc.
- Fifteen or more years of industry experience. Can be a combination of public and/or private sector.
- Ability to build a security program with growth and change in mind. Capable of leading the efforts to differentiate WeWork from other companies, from the perspective of both members and employees.
- Must be an intelligent, articulate and persuasive leader who can serve as an effective member of the C-Suite management team and who is able to communicate security related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff.
- Must have a customer centric mindset with demonstrable background of delivering exceptional member service experiences.
- Must have experience with business continuity planning, physical security, security systems, executive protection, investigations, risk management, as well as contract and vendor negotiation.
- Must have strong working knowledge of pertinent law and the law enforcement community.
- Ability to effectively evaluate and assess immediate security needs and requirements.
- Ability to understand and explain the impact and sensitivity of security issues.
- Leadership skills to motivate and develop staff and to ensure accomplishment of goals.
- Ability to prepare correspondence, work efficiently with cross-functional teams and manage numerous projects under deadline pressure.
- Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization as well as provide clear and meaningful instructions, guidance and counseling to Leaders and team members.
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints and deadlines.
- Work long, irregular hours to include nights, weekends, and holidays often on short notice, with the flexibility of last minute travel.
