Global Head of Total Rewards
Come and build with us the foundation on which every Stripe can build their best self
Stripe is on an extraordinary growth trajectory, with 1700 Stripes spread across 10 offices worldwide and growing. Together, we are building the economic infrastructure of the internet, helping small startups and the world’s biggest companies build products, create business models, and scale their efforts globally.
One of the keys for our continued success is a thoughtful and robust Total Rewards strategy that attracts and retains top talent across the world. Stripe is looking for a Global Head of Total Rewards to serve as the leader responsible for the strategy, design, development, and execution of our total rewards programs. This includes all things compensation, including base salary, equity-based programs, variable pay, bonuses, promotions, and more, as well as a creative benefits program that supports our diverse global team.
You are a true partner for internal users but have a keen eye towards what is happening externally. From a perspective of globalizing where we can, and regionalizing where it makes sense, you will work with business leaders and people operations team members to develop, recommend and ensure successful implementation of our total rewards strategies.
Who will love this job:
- A strategist, who enjoys breaking down complex problems into ambitious goals and clear milestones.
- A partner and collaborator, who gets energy from working with stakeholders to create the best programs possible for our users.
- A data junkie, who obsesses over the numbers.
- An outstanding communicator, who gets that communication and education is a huge part of a successful total rewards program.
- An innovator, who doesn’t believe in doing something just because it’s always been done that way.
You will:
- Build, lead and develop a great global Total Rewards team.
- Lead all global compensation processes and programs (base and variable pay, merit, promotions, quarterly bonuses, equity, etc.).
- Develop executive compensation philosophy and track market trends to make sure we’re attracting and retaining the top leaders in the world.
- Design and continuously optimize compensation and benefit initiatives that are aligned to Stripe's operating principles, and provide flexibility and local customization to account for cultural and market differences.
- Benchmark activities across all areas of rewards to elevate our understanding of our compensation competitiveness globally, and evolve it over time to meet the changing landscape of total rewards.
- Understand current and emerging market trends to identify potential opportunities and gaps.
- Make recommendations and provide leadership for internal and external offers to attract and retain highly sought-after talent, including executives, implementing compensation and benefits systems, tools and processes.
- Partner with People Operations, Recruitment, Finance, and Leadership to understand needs related to compensation and benefits.
- Provide counsel, develop solutions (e.g., manager training for compensation conversations), and broadcast educational pieces and programs around total rewards.
- Work with the Legal and Finance team as well as the Board’s Compensation Consultant to design, update, communicate and disclose executive compensation plans.
- Provide subject matter expertise and accurately interpret, counsel, communicate, and educate HR Business Partners, managers and executives on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretations, and job evaluations.
- Develop a comprehensive, effective communications strategy to share compensation information with all of Stripe.
- Identify functionality and business rules for the architecture of the Workday compensation module.
Our ideal candidate will have:
- BA/BS degree and 10+ years demonstrated experience in total rewards, compensation, and benefits. Experience of 5+ years managing a global total rewards team.
- Demonstrated global (across the Americas, Asia Pacific, and European regions) compensation experience in the following areas: executive compensation, base salary, market pricing, variable pay and performance management, job evaluation, data analysis, research and cost modeling.
- Global benefit experience including knowledge of health and welfare plans, Leaves and time off practices, and retirement plans.
- Consistent track record of identifying problems and using strategic skills to drive appropriate solutions.
- Possess consultative, influential, strategic thinking and problem solving skills.
- Ability to meet independently with senior leaders and present to them with confidence, impact and influence.
- Ability to handle shifting priorities and multitasking in a deadline oriented environment.
- Experience with vendor selection and RFPs.
- Experience with Workday (or similar HRM software).
- Strong expertise in quantitative analysis in Excel.
- Strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation).
- Appreciation for cultural differences.
It’s not expected that any single candidate would have expertise across all of these areas — we’re looking for candidates that are particularly strong in at least one area, and have done some work, and have interest in developing skills and capabilities, in the others.
