Head of Americas Public Policy
Stripe is looking for a seasoned public policy and government relations professional to lead our efforts in the US, Canada and Latin America, as well as our central policy functions. Stripe is building the economic infrastructure that makes it easier for entrepreneurs and companies all over the world to grow their businesses. We work on some of the hardest technical, business, and regulatory problems around, and we’re looking for a seasoned public policy and government relations professional to lead our efforts and deepen our engagement in the Americas. In this role, you will deal with a diverse set of matters that straddle financial services, technology, entrepreneurship and economic policy.
As part of a small but dynamic team across the globe, you will get a chance to shape the Public Policy function around the world as we build it out over the coming years. You’ll work on exciting projects that will position Stripe as a thought leader for the digital economy and the future of financial services. You’ll chart new paths for Stripe as we nurture new (sometimes unlikely!) partnerships to help build a better environment for upstarts to flourish. You’ll be a key cross-functional player, interfacing with teams across the company from Communications, Legal, Regulatory, Financial Partnerships, Marketing, and Engineering to Sales, in order to advocate for policies that increase the GDP of the Internet.

In this role you will:
- Report to the Head of Global Public Policy to lead Stripe’s public policy and government relations engagement in the US, Canada, and Latin America as well as our central policy functions.
- Empower the Public Policy team to strategically develop, pursue and execute policy objectives as part of our company’s global priorities.
- Advise Stripe’s executive leadership team on a variety of matters within region that have policy, regulatory and political ramifications.
- Directly engage senior policymakers and regulators to educate them about Stripe’s business model and vision of the digital economy and the future of payments.
- Influence legislative and regulatory agendas and outcomes, gather intelligence, anticipate and report on developments within region.
- Plan, develop and execute policy initiatives and campaigns that advance Stripe’s policy goals and those of our users.
- Develop and maintain relationships with public policy representatives across the technology community and third-party organizations, and serve as a representative of Stripe on trade groups or other industry non-government bodies.
- Build coalitions for Stripe amongst our key supporters to advance shared policy objectives.
- Help colleagues across Stripe understand potential policy developments and identify policy opportunities to grow our business.
- Collaborate with other teams to develop public and internal communications strategies and messaging relevant to public policy matters. Serve as external spokesperson where appropriate.
- Travel ~25% of the time within region.
- Oversee program budget.
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- 15+ years of experience working in a government position, international organization, think-tank, consulting firm or similar experience at a world class in-house government relations organization with a focus at the US Federal level.
- Excellent skills in policy analysis, key relationships, good political judgement, public speaking, media engagement, and a proven track record of success.
- Experience managing teams, especially in a high-growth environment.
- Strong industry knowledge - an understanding of internet technologies, the financial services and payments industry and the key policy issues in the region.
- An ability to cover a broad range of issues and get deep when and where needed.
