Head of Corporate Development

The Head of Corporate Development will work as a key member of the Gusto leadership team. There are three main focus areas: 1) Develop a strategic framework evaluation / optimization playbook and ownership of tracking and approval process  2) Ownership of the M&A process and execution 3) General Gusto cross-department acceleration initiatives

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Build rapport internally across the organization and externally among the leaders of potential acquisitions, industry influencers and other consultative entities, ensuring strong partnerships and a robust pipeline of potential acquisitions
  • Create analytical models and perform financial analysis to value acquisition opportunities, providing clear explanations and make well-founded recommendations to executive leadership
  • Oversee the end-to-end acquisition (M&A) process including strategic fit, business assessment, due diligence, valuation, contract negotiation, integration and post-closing issue resolution
  • Regularly interface up through senior leadership and act as a thought partner across the company for those who seek input on key strategic, tactical execution and acquisition decisions
  • Coordinate and align M&A strategy and facilitate the acquisition process
  • Lead the process to refine Gusto’s strategy and development plan
  • Analyze multiple markets and strategic acquisition opportunities

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience including a combination of operations/general management and corporate development, consulting, investment banking or private equity is highly preferred
  • Strategic thinking / ability to execute cross departmental initiatives  
  • Strong financial, analytical, forecasting, negotiation and problem solving skills
  • Business experience in B2B, B2C, SaaS, internet, differing GTM models, differing regulator environments   
  • Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills - strong listening skills
  • Comfort in taking action and operating in ambiguous environments
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong coaching, mentoring and team building skills
  • Bachelor’s and MBA degree required
