Hello there. We’re Zopa.
We began our journey in 2005 with the drive to deliver customer-first financial products. Fast forward to 2020, we shifted gears and became a digital bank, leveraging our customer knowledge, money expertise and technical agility to forge ahead. Our diverse team is united by a mission to create simple, fair and honest financial products that have the customers’ needs at their heart.
We’re regularly recognised at industry awards for our game-changing products and are proud to be one of the market leaders in consumer lending in the UK. But our work doesn’t stop there.
After securing £220 million in our 2021 funding round led by SoftBank, we’ve entered the next stage in our journey. So far, we’ve lent out over £8 billion and made money work better for over half a million people across the UK who were looking to borrow or save with us. In less than 2 years after becoming a bank, we hit £2 billion in customer deposits and we’re also a top 5 credit card issuer in the UK. And this is just the beginning.

We’re looking for a Head of Credit Strategy to own and lead the strategic direction for credit and fraud across our UPL and Auto products.
We are already dominant players in the space with our Unsecured Personal Loans product, lending in excess of £100m per month and have ambitious plans to elevate this to the next level.
Our Auto product is the relatively new kid on the block with some big growth plans in place - this role will be vital to delivering on that so there's huge opportunity for impact.
You’ll be leading teams of high performing analysts that are responsible for developing pricing and credit strategies that drive growth in our lending products, whilst also driving improvements in credit performance.
You’ll work with our cross-functional teams including sales, data science, product, tech and operations to develop and drive growth strategies, influence strategic decisions and identify new opportunities through the application of cutting edge analytical techniques.
A day in the life:
- Lead Zopa's credit strategy and agenda with a focus on business growth and resilience
- Mentoring and managing the team and environment for individuals to unleash their potential
- Developing and maintaining automated and manual credit, affordability, fraud and asset risk policies
- Using a new scorecard to make decisions, doing swap analysis and understanding the risks
- Building NPV models to inform lending decisions and marketing strategy
- Deciding on pricing for loans customers
- Using analytics to develop existing customer loan strategies
- Designing tests on pricing accept/decline decisions
The ideal candidate will have:
- At least 8+ years of credit risk experience spanning both analysis and credit strategy
- Exceptional analytical ability combined with good judgement
- A deep understanding of credit, asset and fraud risk combined with a very high level of commercial awareness
- The ability to set an overarching agenda and inspire your team to refine and deliver
- Strong understanding of the regulatory environment, keeping the customer in mind when developing lending strategies
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and influence the leadership team to drive business-impacting change
