As the Intellectual Property (IP) Counsel in the General Licensing department of the Intellectual Property & Standards department (IP&S) of Philips, you will have the opportunity to create maximum value from the Philips IP portfolio through patent drafting and prosecution thereby supporting licensing and other commercial IP-based activities. You will participate in the conception and execution of appropriate IP strategies, as well as support and handle IP matters in a wide range of collaborations with third parties and litigation. You will become part of an international community of IP professionals with wide-ranging technical backgrounds and IP experience. The IP&S team will offer excellent opportunities for your further development as an IP Counsel and professional networking.
Your role:
Provide optimal protection and generate maximum long-term value for Philips by preparing and prosecuting high quality patent applications that meet international patentability standards.
Maintain a substantial and active prosecution docket of patent applications, while supporting infringement and validity analysis, including claim chart mapping to technical standards and other use cases,
Support analysis of third-party patents to grow the IP portfolio in the relevant technology domain and work together with international colleagues to harmonize patent protection.
You're the right fit if:
You have at least a Bachelor's degree with a technical background in physics, electrical engineering, or computer science. A Master’s degree or higher is a plus.
You have, preferably, subject matter knowledge in technology domains like audio/video compression/codecs, and wireless connectivity technologies such as 3GPP/WiFi.
You are a licensed US Patent Attorney with 5 + years of patent creation experience at a law firm, or a mix of law firm and in-house experience, preferably at a multinational organization.
Your skills include experience in handling IP matters relating to drafting and prosecution, defending IP assertions, contributing to IP litigation and/or IP licensing. You also possess excellent analytical and intellectual capabilities; in combination with key communications skills to operate at all levels both internally and externa

How we work together
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Philips Transparency Details
The pay range for this position in Stamford, CT $209,000 to $333,000.
The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
In addition, other compensation, such as an annual incentive bonus, sales commission or long-term incentives, may be offered. At Philips, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top end of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each case.

Company relocation benefits will not be provided for this position. For this position, you must reside in or within commuting distance to Stamford, CT.
