Junior Mission Systems Engineer (f/m/d)
About Satellogic
Satellogic is a vertically integrated Earth Observation company that designs, manufactures, and operates satellite systems, delivering decision-grade insights at scale to government and commercial customers.
We build space systems end-to-end, from satellite design and manufacturing to launch and on-orbit operations, giving us the ability to deploy quickly, operate reliably, and support persistent monitoring across regions and priority areas. Our approach moves customers beyond one-off imagery toward continuous awareness and alert-driven decision-making, with flexible pathways that can evolve from managed monitoring to full satellite ownership and sovereign control.
Our technology supports a wide range of use cases across climate monitoring, agriculture, energy, infrastructure, defense and intelligence, helping organizations detect change, manage risk, and plan with confidence.
With a team distributed across five countries, Satellogic brings together expertise in satellite engineering, software development, data science, manufacturing, operations, and go-to-market. We’re a group of purpose-driven builders who value ownership, curiosity, and execution—and who work with humility, honesty, and empathy.
About the Team
The Mission Engineering and Planning Team is chartered to transform strategic goals into optimally designed and operated constellations, ensuring every fleet operates at its maximum potential. This team is an exciting and diverse group responsible for mission design, performance optimization, and the lifecycle management of the Mission Planning System.
Within the Mission Planning System, the team is responsible for planning and scheduling services that define all activities - including imagery captures, ground station connections, and orbit design - for our growing constellation of satellites. Working in this team entails the design and implementation of state-of-the-art algorithms that solve complex combinatorial and geometric-orbit-related spatial optimization problems.
About the Position
We are looking for an enthusiastic Mission Systems Engineer to join our team. In this position, you will take part in all aspects of the team’s work: planning algorithms development, backend and API development, mission analysis, and more.
The role reports to the Head of Mission Engineering and Planning and will receive mentorship while collaborating closely with the Systems, AOCS, and Software Development teams.
Responsibilities
- Analyze complex data to identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement through constellation simulations, new service trade-off assessments, and mission-general constraints/resources analysis.
- Contribute to the lifecycle (developing, testing, maintaining, and operating) of our core planning services, including REST APIs, backend services, and planning algorithms.
- Build internal tools and APIs to streamline daily analysis and data retrieval for the engineering team.
- Develop simulation and debugging tools that make it simple to reproduce and resolve production bugs in our development environments.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong proficiency in Python software development and data handling/analysis libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Jupyter Notebooks).
- Experience with novel and complex algorithms (e.g., AI Planning & Scheduling, Search Problems, Combinatorial Optimization, or Geographic Information Systems/GIS).
- Familiarity with satellite missions, orbital mechanics, or satellite engineering concepts.
- Familiarity with modern software development workflows (e.g., Git, testing frameworks, CI/CD, Docker) is a plus.
- Excellent spoken and written English, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
About You
- Curious & Adaptive: You demonstrate an eagerness to learn new technical concepts and processes quickly.
- System-Focused: You possess a strong interest in improving the reliability, maintainability, and efficiency of complex operational systems.
- Detail-Oriented: You are committed to technical rigor and high-quality engineering standards.
- Collaborative: You enjoy cross-disciplinary teamwork and are comfortable working with both software engineers and aerospace specialists.
Location
The preferred location is Buenos Aires, Argentina or Montevideo, Uruguay. Availability to travel is required, specifically to our plant facilities in Montevideo.
