Lead Friction Stir Weld Technician – Falcon 9 Launch Vehicle

Candidates should possess a combination of solid mechanical knowledge, hands-on experience and the willingness and ability to learn. The Lead FSW Production technician is responsible for leading a crew of technicians and driving high performance and quality.  It is a dynamic position that requires the flexibility to work on different machines, troubleshoot, drive schedule and coordinate with business partners to accomplish delivery targets while keeping safety and quality at the forefront.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate shop floor activity, including daily schedules and workflow.
  • Contain nonconformance issues including documentation of associated work.
  • Support and train a team of ~10 technicians.
  • Review work instructions and make change recommendations when needed.
  • Develop and implement efficiency improvement projects.
  • Tooling modification and repairs.
  • Develop thorough understanding of FSW and NDE processes.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance activities.
  • Monitor precision blending and process adherence.
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous materials in approved manner.
  • Maintain safe work environment.
  • Maintain compliance.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of aerospace or structural assembly experience.
  • Experience in a leadership role.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • SpaceX experience.
  • 5 years of related aerospace experience.
  • Knowledge of pressure, measurement devices; mechanical systems.
  • Strong mathematical, strong computer, problem solving and decision-making skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team, meet aggressive schedules.
  • Experience leading a team of 3 or more technicians in a manufacturing production environment.
  • High-volume manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs and work in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must be available to work all shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Repetitive assembly operations, grasping, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator/PAPR.
