Managing Director, Management Insights & Analytics
The Performance, Reporting & Analytics (“PRA”) group within Finance, Analytics & Risk (“FAR”) is an enterprise function that is the authoritative source for total fund internal financial reporting. Reporting to the Global Leadership Team - Managing Director of Performance, Reporting & Analytics, the Managing Director of Management Insights & Analytics (MI&A) is accountable for delivering actionable insights to Management and the Board through the delivery of objective, fit-for-purpose, integrated financial reporting and analytics.
You will provide leadership by leveraging broad investment experience and strong technical knowledge to evolve and promote a reporting center of excellence that drives insight generation and common understanding among a range of audiences. The role requires superior analytical and communication skills, as well as excellent relationship building in working with various business stakeholders to understand total Fund and Investment Department concepts.
Opportunity:
- Deliver value-added, integrated reporting and insights on the Total Fund and Investment Department activities to drive commercial insights and to meet the internal reporting needs of CPP Investments including regular reporting to senior management and the Board of Directors
- Work within and across departments to understand and articulate a consistent and accurate ‘story’ of performance attribution, peer performance, leverage and liquidity
- Provide thought leadership in the areas of performance attribution and benchmarking
- Proactively anticipate CPPIB reporting needs based on macro-economic changes and the evolving complexity of CPPIB
- Develop and promote reporting best practices within the department and across the organization to focus on high value content reports and analytics, streamline production processes and reduce redundancy
- Set the strategic direction of the team while ensuring team mandate, structure, resources, roles and responsibilities are positioned and aligned to meet enterprise and departmental strategic initiatives
- Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values innovation, learning and a commitment to quality and talent development
Leadership
- Recruit, develop and lead a team of experienced professionals to deliver on the current and future mandate of the Management Reporting team effectively and efficiently
- Build capabilities within the team to recognize and communicate the ‘story’ behind the numbers
- Lead the talent within the team to maximize employee engagement, effectiveness and performance
- Develop, manage and measure individual and group objectives aligned with CPPIB strategy
- Demonstrated experience in deriving actionable insight from both qualitative and quantitative information, and communicating such insights effectively to senior audiences
- Experience working in a global multi-strategy fund, recognized public or private pension fund, sovereign wealth fund or international investment bank or asset manager
- Strong knowledge of benchmarking techniques, performance measurement and assessment, statistical approaches, and attribution concepts/methodologies
- A solid understanding of portfolio construction
- Quantitative mindset to be able to measure the value of decisions
- Intellectual curiosity, a well-developed strategic mind and sound business judgement
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, while collaborating with and influencing business partners to achieve strategic goals
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively articulate complex concepts to a range of technical and non-technical audiences
- Role models good judgment, professionalism and dependability
