Refeyn
Refeyn

Manufacturing Technician

Refeyn is the world's pioneer in mass photometry – a ground-breaking technology that weighs individual molecules and particles with light. It transforms our ability to characterise the composition, structure and dynamics of biomolecules and biomolecular complexes, nanostructures, and viral capsids.

Since being spun out of the University of Oxford in 2018, Refeyn has been developing mass photometry instruments and delivering them to customers around the world – at leading academic institutions and in biopharma. We are continuously pushing the boundaries of what mass photometry can achieve.

With headquarters in Oxford, UK as well as offices in the US, we are a growing, global company with a team of over 130 employees (and growing). In addition to achieving market success, Refeyn has attracted a high level of investment – we raised $70m in our Series B funding round in March 2022.

At Refeyn, we are fiercely proud of our talented workforce, whose creativity, tenacity and skills have enabled us to evolve into a successful, well-funded and rapidly growing company in just a few years. To achieve our ambitions – to transform analytical workflows in the life sciences, biopharma and beyond with mass photometry – we are continuing to expand our workforce.

We strive to be an outstanding place to work – by maintaining a positive and inclusive culture, offering competitive salaries and benefits, encouraging ongoing training and development, plus, of course, plenty of other perks.

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Technician to join Refeyn Ltd as a member of the Operations team. The instrumentation we are producing involves a combination of lasers, electro-optics systems, 3D positioners and detection using high specification video cameras.  Instrument assembly therefore largely involves electronics box-build and optics alignment.

The successful candidate for this role will have a high level of assembly skills, attention to detail and the ability to work to strict deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to develop good working relationships with colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assembly and test of Mass Photometer instruments:
    • Producing equipment to detailed Work Instructions, assembly instructions and documented test routines.
    • Manufacturing techniques include:
      • Producing electrical harnesses
      • Assembling electronic sub-systems
      • Assembling and aligning optical components.
      • Final Acceptance Testing (FAT) Test routines are bespoke to Refeyn, but clearly documented – training will be given.

       2. Involvement at all stages of the wider operations and manufacturing processes, for example:

  • To understand, design and implement lean manufacturing techniques to ensure the manufacture of both electronic and optical systems is well organised, straightforward to perform and provides an economical process.
  • Work with bills of material, part procurement and stock holding to ensure forward planning and smooth running of the operations activities.
  • Continuous improvement of operations facilities, tools and techniques. Having a continual focus on operations processes to increase productivity and reduce costs.
  • Document protocols, in-process results, issues and potential improvements during operations activities. Archive of test results and tracking of key performance metrics.

Skills & Experience required:

  • Relevant industrial operations experience (approx. 3 years)
  • Working in a laboratory environment requiring personal protective equipment (PPE) and handling of lasers and optics.
  • Ability to assemble electronic subsystems, including fault finding (eg continuity testing).
  • Experience of assembly of high precision and/or delicate parts, optics handling and use of lasers.
  • Some experience of testing high-technology equipment prior to shipping.

Desirable:

  • Experience of optical alignment using laser systems. Laser safety training to Class 4 laser use.
  • Previous experience of assembling and testing scientific instrumentation.

Benefits

  • 25 days annual leave, excess-free private health insurance, critical illness cover and income protection, up to 7% employer pension contribution, salary sacrifice nursery scheme, enhanced maternity, paternity and shared parental leave, charitable giving, development opportunities, wellbeing resources, gym and retail discounts

Refeyn is committed to being an equal opportunities employer. We are working hard to create a safe and empowering environment for all, and firmly believe that there is great strength in building teams with different voices, experiences, perspectives and backgrounds. We welcome applicants from all sections of society to join us on our mission to transform analytical workflows using the power of light.

Refeyn pioneers mass photometry technology, providing instruments that enable the rapid and accurate analysis of biomolecules and nanostructures without the need for labels. Our solutions cater to researchers and scientists in the life sciences and biotech sectors, distinguishing us in the market with the ability to measure single molecules in solution.
