Position Summary
The Mechanical Engineering Technician/QA will support construction management activities through
technical review of mechanical designs, equipment submittals, requests for information, shop drawings,
and contractor deliverables. The position serves as an extension of the Owner's Representative and
Engineering Team, ensuring installed systems conform to project requirements, specifications, and
approved submittals.
This position combines responsibilities typically associated with a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, and
Quality Assurance Representative.
Primary Responsibilities
Technical Review
● Review mechanical construction documents for completeness and constructability.
● Review and evaluate contractor submittals, shop drawings, product data, calculations, and
material certifications.
● Evaluate Requests for Information (RFIs) and provide technical recommendations.
● Assist in resolution of design conflicts and field installation issues.
● Verify proposed substitutions comply with contract requirements.
● Review operation and maintenance manuals for completeness.
Construction Support
● Participate in coordination meetings and design review sessions.
● Assist with schedule reviews associated with major equipment procurement and installation
activities.
● Monitor contractor compliance with approved submittals.
● Support commissioning and startup activities.
Quality Assurance
● Conduct field inspections as required to verify installation of mechanical systems and equipment.
● Document deficiencies and assist in tracking corrective actions.
● Review testing reports and verify compliance with project specifications.
● Support punch list development and project closeout activities.
Minimum Qualifications
● Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
● Minimum five years of experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, power generation,
federal, or heavy commercial construction projects.
● Experience reviewing equipment submittals, fabrication drawings, and technical specifications.
● Familiarity with ASME standards, welding practices, rotating equipment, pumps, piping systems,
HVAC systems, and industrial process equipment.
● Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
