Minor League Player Education Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:                        
The Boston Red Sox are seeking a Player Education Coordinator for the 2022 season. This is a roving role but will be based in Fort Myers, FL with travel to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic as well as time at our various affiliates. The Player Education Coordinator will work with our Behavioral Health department along with our Front Office and on-field staff throughout the organization to provide a holistic approach to education and growth for all players.
 
Utilizing a collaborative approach with various areas of the organization to coordinate off field personal development programs for all players throughout the organization. This will include the creation and directing of continuing education for players (internal and external), development of new off field support systems, and supporting the implementation of our mental skills curriculum at entry levels.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create a cultural education curriculum that helps players transition from high school, college or abroad to professional baseball and adulthood.
  • Provide leadership and support for our Latin American players as they transition from the DR to the states and into full season clubs. Broadening our education curriculum to not only language but also the cultural transition.
  • Ensure successful adjustment for all foreign born players from academy/short season level to full season baseball, including personal assistance/ intervention as appropriate.
  • Practice disciplined system of communication with appropriate staff members related to individual work with players in order to foster consistency of message.
  • Facilitate successful transition to professional baseball for all newly signed players.  Develop and implement “transition” program to speed integration of new players into system. 
  • Oversee continuing education for all players, including budgeting for school and support programs and managing teaching and support personnel.
  • Development and implementation of in-season and off-season programs that compliment player development plans and organizational goals. 
  • Alongside our Latin American Mental Skills Coordinator, oversee and coordinate assimilation program for American born players at Dominican academy.
  • Take part in the design and implementation of systems to improve Latin American education and assimilation within the Red Sox organization
  • Additional duties as assigned by Director, Player Development and Director, Behavioral Health.

CHARACTERISTICS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Equivalent, relevant experience will be considered in lieu of formal education requirements if approved by management.
  • Spanish Proficiency 
  • DESIRED:
  • Prior teaching experience or experience within the education field.
  • Prior experience dealing with collegiate sports, professional sports or elite athletes
  • LOCATION/TRAVEL:
  • Fort Myers, FL based position
  • Trips to affiliates as assigned by Director, Player Development
  • Multiple trips to Latin America (2x monthly) including but not limited to, DSL Early Report/Spring Training/Regular Season, International Signing Period, Dominican Instructional League and Winter Programs
  • Representation at any events and meetings deemed appropriate by the Club. Additional travel as assigned by Director, Player Development
