Platform Engineer

Your role in our mission

We’re looking for an exceptional Platform Engineer.  Reporting to the Head of SRE, you will work to innovate, develop, secure, and maintain the organisation’s infrastructure and DevOps capabilities.  You will work within the wider Technology Team to scale systems, automate and standardise deployment, analyse processes & recommend improvements.  You will work across Scrum Teams with Development, QA, Product and InfoSec colleagues to build secure, high-performing, resilient and efficient infrastructure.  The ideal candidate will be self-motivated and reliable, with a great work ethic.

The essentials

• Experience deploying and working with AWS (minimum two years)
• Experience of working with TCP/IP protocols, network routing, firewalls, gateways, & load balancers and associated services
• A strong Linux background 
• Experience in setting up and maintaining CI/CD (preferably TeamCity, AWS Code Commit/Build/Deploy/Pipelines)
• Experience with maintaining cloud hosted databases (MySQL)
• Experience writing IAC (preferably Terraform)
• Knowledge of GIT or other source code control systems
• Experience implementing security best practices, DDoS protection, IPS, DLP and IAM management procedures.
• Experience of centralised log management (preferably Cloudwatch)
• Experience of AWS Well-Architected infrastructure requirements and the implementation of AWS security services.

Nice to have

• Experience of ECS
• Experience with SQL and MySQL
• Experience with automation/configuration management (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
• Experience with Nginx, HAProxy
• Experience implementing and maintaining AWS security services and third-party solutions (e.g. Palo Alto, GuardDuty, SecurityHub, Shield, WAF)

• You have excellent communication skills and great attention to detail
• You enjoy implementing and maintaining scalable, reliable, and secure systems.  You have built or been part of a team that has built and implemented such systems.
• You have previous experience as a Systems/DevOps/TechOps Engineer working with public and private cloud infrastructures, ideally in FinTech.
• You have a passion for cybersecurity and the protection of vital information assets.
• You have problem solving aptitude, enjoying figuring things out and ultimately fixing them. 
• You love to learn and apply new technologies to solve issues and innovate.

What you’ll do

• Programatically create infrastructure in AWS using Terraform
• Manage AWS services including Route53, S3, Swarm & IAM
• Ensure our systems are highly available and resilient
• Help design, implement, maintain and improve our CI/CD Pipelines
• Support the Scrum Teams in their technology and infrastructure needs
• Work with the Information Security Team to implement and maintain robust security controls and systems
• Work across the Technology Team on other wider technology initiatives
