Job Summary:

AGC Biologics GmbH is currently looking for an expert to join the Upstream Process Development (USP) subdivision of the Process Development (PD) team in Heidelberg. The ideal candidate is a part of the USP team and responsible for the establishment of fermentation processes for microbially produced protein and plasmid DNA. This includes also all needed steps related on USP development and analytical steps and reporting associated with USP.

 
Job Responsibilities:

  • Jobholder has emphasis to develop/establish fermentation processes of proteins and pDNA
  • Planning and evaluation of the experiments by existing data in collaboration with the client
  • Preparing and presenting data associated with USP for internal and external purposes (preparation of reports and presentations summarizing USP work)
  • Assisting lab work and report this to the PD and USP representative
  • Supporting search and implementation of new technologies and tools related on USP into PD to expand PD USP capabilities and improve processes
  • Supporting Manufacturing on drafting and revising manufacturing batch records and SOPs
  • Assisting communication with the client
  • Preparing and presenting data associated with USP for internal and external purposes
  • Assisting effective working relationships with QC, QA, Manufacturing, Project Management and Business Development to support new processes, products and projects
  • Other duties as assigned

 
Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related engineering or university discipline with +3 years of expertise and main emphasis in process development, especially strong knowledge in Upstream Development is preferred (well-grounded knowledge in this field should be proven by the candidate)
  • Alternatively: Master’s degree in Engineering or Science with minimum of +5 years of direct relevant experience (same spectrum of knowledge is mandatory) may also be desirable
  • Broad insights and experiences in PD USP based technologies as well as scale-up to manufacturing on industry level is desirable
  • Ideal candidate has prolonged industrial background
  • Ideally, familiar with data mining, DoE quality tools, analysis and process control
  • Must be self-motivating, organized and proactive in order to coordinate the multi-departmental tasks and deliverables (interaction with Manufacturing, QA, QC, client, etc.)
  • Requirement of minimal supervision
  • Attitude for successful handling multiple projects in parallel and flexibility to tackle challenges in new projects/areas
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate technical know-how
  • Strong technical attitude including experience of applying scientific reasoning to solve complex problems
  • Fluent in verbal and written English and German
  • Ability to integrate in an existing team and to perform as a team player
  • Flexibility in working hours and willingness to work in shifts (Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.)
