Public and Participant Involvement and Engagement Manager
We are looking for a Public and Participant Involvement and Engagement Manager to work across teams to ensure that engagement insights can meaningfully contribute to shaping the ongoing design of the programme and feed into the development of organisational and programme policies. The PPIE Manager will contribute to Our Future Health’s public and participant involvement and engagement programme of work through establishing new PPIE activities.
Our Future Health will be the UK’s largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.
Our plan is to bring together 5 million volunteers from right across the UK who will be asked to contribute information to help build one of the most detailed pictures we have ever had of people’s health. Researchers will be able to use this information to make new discoveries about human health and diseases. So future generations can live in good health for longer.Reporting to the Head of Ethics, you will work closely with the Product, Behavioural Science and Communication teams to align on engagement strategies. In this role, your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Further developing an innovative and impactful programme of participant and public involvement and engagement activities to generate insights for the ongoing design and delivery of the Our Future Health programme and key policies.
- Managing Our Future Health’s Participant and Public Advisory Board (PAB) to facilitate the Boards’ involvement and input into live operational and policy development and decisions and support the PAB’s interaction with Our Future Health teams and other Boards.
- Managing and working closely with the diversity and inclusion lead at Our Future Health.
- Co-designing the ongoing and longer-term participant relationship with Our Future Health through engagement work and by working closely with other teams at Our Future health.
- Working alongside the community engagement roles at Our Future Health to build links with a diverse range of communities and networks to facilitate participation in Our Future Health and meaningful involvement in our programme of work and activities.
- Supporting Our Future Health staff to appropriately engage with a diverse range of publics and participants through training and advice.
- Producing external facing content and material to showcase and share learnings from our engagement activities and communicate how engagement insights have been actioned by Our Future Health.
- Helping navigate through challenging ethical and societal issues relevant to Our Future Health’s work by gathering insights and engaging with participants, members of the public, key partner organisations, stakeholders, public and professional bodies.
- Helping Our Future Health demonstrate values of transparency, accountability, trust and clarity through our research and engagement activities.
Requirements
To succeed, you will have some of the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrable experience of working in PPIE or in a similar role, with experience commissioning and managing contractors to deliver public engagement activities in a healthcare research context.
- Experience managing a Board or equivalent for regular and impactful engagement.
- Some knowledge of emerging ethical challenges in longitudinal healthcare research programmes and experience of facilitating ethical deliberation with members of the public.
- Experience building networks and partnerships for engagement and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to ensuring the inclusion of diverse communities and voices in engagement activities and an understanding of why equity, diversity and inclusion are of critical importance to ensuring Our Future Health’s success as a programme.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to manage time well and prioritise effectively whilst multitasking.
- Ability to work within a complex organisation and collaboratively across teams to plan and achieve outcomes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, confidence, and diplomacy in dealing with complex stakeholder relationships involving participants, members of the public, colleagues, and senior Board members.
- A passion for bringing public and participant voices to shape the future of healthcare through research to make a global impact.
