QA Automation Intern

TLDR

Intern on the QA team, automating mobile app tests, building test infrastructure, and collaborating with engineers to improve software quality.

For more than seventeen years, Smule has been on a mission to bring the world together through music. We believe music is about far more than listening — it's about creating, sharing, discovering, and connecting. With tens of millions of monthly active users producing over 20 million songs every day, we're spreading the joy of creative expression at a global scale.

We're looking for a curious, detail-oriented intern to join our QA team and learn how high-quality mobile software gets built and tested. You'll work alongside senior engineers, get hands-on with real test infrastructure.

What You'll Do:

  • Write and maintain automated tests for our mobile applications under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Investigate failing tests — reproduce issues, identify root causes, and propose fixes
  • Build and extend test infrastructure — page objects, helper utilities, and shared components used across test suites
  • Explore the application manually to understand new features before automating them, and document what you find
  • Run regression suites locally and on CI, and help triage results
  • Collaborate with developers, designers, and other QA team members during feature reviews and bug investigations

What You'll Bring:

  • Basic programming knowledge in any object-oriented language (Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, etc.) and willingness to learn new ones as needed
  • Familiarity with version control — comfortable with Git basics: cloning, branching, commits, and pull requests
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills in English, written and verbal
  • Curiosity and self-driven learning — you'll be reading other people's code, exploring unfamiliar tools, and figuring things out
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants (Cursor, Copilot, Claude)
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field — or an equivalent background you can demonstrate

Nice to Have:

  • Any prior exposure to test automation
  • Understanding of testing fundamentals — what makes a good test, the test pyramid, and the difference between regression, smoke, and acceptance testing
  • Some experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • A general interest in applying AI to everyday workflows
