1. Interacts with patient, managed care organizations, physicians, and co-workers in a customer-friendly and professional manager.

 

  1. Understands managed care specifications for issuing referrals, obtaining appropriate pre-authorizations, and using designated specialist.

 

  1. Completes appropriate referral form with correct, detailed information.  Makes copy of referral form for patient’s record within 48 hours of initial patient contact unless awaiting pre-authorization.

 

  1. Maintains consistent patient contact to inform patient(s) of the status of their referrals.
  1. Maintains referral log appropriately; notes why patient(s) may have gone out of system (i.e., proximity).

 

  1. Utilizes referral log for tracking and follow-up.

 

  1. Completes monthly referral reports at the close of every month and forwards these reports to the Practice Manager.

 

  1. Assures practice staff and physicians are updated as to any changes in written referral protocols.

 

  1. Maintains and completes external medical forms including copies of any Medical Records needed.

 

  1. Performs other duties as assigned by Practice Manager.


Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. 
Previous Medical receptionist experience or background in general office work requiredAll your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
