Research Engineer
TLDR
Work on applied research and production ML for perception systems in autonomous tech, translating research into scalable, deployable AI for real-world perception challenges.
- Develop and extend proprietary machine learning and unsupervised learning algorithms, focusing on perception systems that scale to complex real-world datasets and edge cases.
- Design, run, and maintain deep learning experiments, ensuring reproducibility, robustness, and continuous improvement of model performance across iterative research cycles.
- Collaborate closely with software engineers and autonomous vehicle teams to integrate and deploy models into internal systems and customer-facing platforms.
- Build and maintain research tooling and infrastructure that supports rapid experimentation, evaluation, and validation of new AI approaches.
- Analyze model behavior, identify failure modes, and refine architectures to improve accuracy, stability, and generalization in production environments.
- Contribute to translating research prototypes into deployable systems that meet performance and scalability requirements.
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, or a related field, or 5+ years of equivalent industry experience in applied AI or ML research.
- Strong hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, applied to real-world machine learning problems.
- Proficiency in Python, with working knowledge of C or C++ for performance-critical or systems-level development.
- Solid understanding of computer vision, unsupervised learning, or related AI domains, with a strong interest in perception systems and autonomous technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to run experiments in fast-paced environments, iterate quickly, and translate research ideas into working implementations.
- Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to troubleshoot complex model behavior and system-level interactions.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with experience working in cross-functional engineering and research teams.
- Competitive base salary ranging approximately from $150,000 to $250,000, with potential additional compensation through equity and/or bonus depending on experience and location.
