The Role
8 Rivers is seeking a Rotating Equipment Subject Matter Expert to help develop its zero-emissions technology portfolio, from conception to launch. The unique role involves an expertise in mechanical principles relating to the design, evaluation, and selection of turbines, pumps, turboexpanders, compressors, and other similar equipment. The successful candidate will be tasked with leading internal mechanical design aspects of novel technology development and commercial project execution while working in a fast-paced, innovative, and creative environment. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders will be critical; therefore, you must have good communication and leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary resource for rotating equipment across a variety of processes
- Support technology development and equipment design maturation for novel processes, from concept to commercialization.
- Optimize technical, safety, and economic performance of processes through selection and design of ideal rotating equipment.
- Develop specifications for existing and first-of-a-kind equipment packages.
- Identify and manage equipment vendors for rotating equipment.
- Generate mechanical specifications and designs of rotating equipment.
- Design and provide economic analyses of rotating equipment based on process requirements.
- Implement applicable codes and standards in equipment design for industrial applications.
- Perform safety-related calculations and provide input to HAZID/ENVID, HAZOP, SIL, and other safety reviews as directed.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage day-to-day activities associated with the delivery of engineering services to meet the scope requirements of the projects or services.
- Executes routine and detailed engineering calculations using first principles in support of the technical solutions proposed.
- Collaborate with external partners and vendors to develop and execute equipment selection plansParticipate in the development, revision, and review of engineering documentation such as equipment data sheets, equipment lists, critical equipment RFPs, and manufacturing packages.
Essential Skillset, Education/Qualification, Certification Attainment
- Minimum Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering Preferred).
- Professional Engineering license preferred.
- Minimum 25 years of experience in mechanical design, specification, selection, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of rotating equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of pumps, compressors, turbines, turbomachinery and associated power trains.
- Experience with high pressure and supercritical fluid applications of rotating equipment.
- Detailed knowledge of rotating equipment suppliers, as well as metallurgy, fabrication techniques and modularization.
- Experience with gas processing and industrial gases including but not limited to H2, H2S, O2 and CO2.
- Experience with thermochemical and cryogenic processes.
- A clear understanding of the commercial implications of engineering solutions proposed and how they affect the project economics and risk profile.
- Experience conducting fabrication surveillance.
- Knowledge and experience with interpreting and applying international codes and standards for design and analysis of rotatory equipment such as API 610, ASME B73, API 674, API 676, API 672, API 618, API 619 among others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including negotiation and conflict resolution.
- Excellent client-facing skills and the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Willingness to mentor team members.
- Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking across various projects.
- A demonstrable understanding of the lifecycle of a project from R&D concept through to construction and the various phases of development to commercial operation.
