Safety Director
TLDR
Oversee enterprise safety initiatives with hands-on leadership, traveling to project sites to ensure OSHA/MSHA compliance across heavy construction.

High School Diploma or GED required; safety-related education preferred

Experience in heavy construction, earthwork, or related industries
-
Extensive knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, MUTCD, and FMCSR regulations
-
OSHA 30-Hour certification
-
Strong leadership and supervisory experience

Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills
-
Excellent organizational and project management abilities
-
Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with field personnel

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and HCSS Safety preferred

Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites throughout Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Virginia, and North Carolina

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Develop, maintain, and oversee implementation of company health and safety programs

Lead and monitor the company's Safety Strategic Plan

Partner with operations leadership to support safe and compliant project execution
-
Collaborate with Human Resources on employee injuries, workers' compensation, and return-to-work processes

Develop site-specific safety plans and safe work procedures
-
Oversee safety documentation, regulatory compliance, and reporting requirements
-
Coordinate employee safety orientation, training, certifications, and recordkeeping
-
Support and monitor weekly safety meetings across project sites
-
Review incidents and ensure thorough investigations and corrective actions
-
Manage workers' compensation claims and related insurance programs
-
Monitor key safety metrics, including EMR, OSHA logs, recordable incidents, and lost-time rates
-
Conduct jobsite safety inspections and serve as a safety resource for field operations
-
Participate in project planning to identify and address safety requirements
-
Lead safety committees, stand-downs, and accident investigation activities
-
Participate in industry safety organizations and professional development opportunities
-
Oversee the selection, availability, and proper use of safety equipment
-
Foster continuous improvement and accountability throughout the organization
