What You Will Contribute to Altos
An exciting opportunity is available for a scientist to join Altos Labs. The position is located at the Institute of Medicine at Cambridge UK to drive a project headed by Dr. Martin Denzel and Dr. Herbert (Skip) Virgin. We are seeking highly motivated, creative, and collaborative individuals who are passionate about using their expertise to understand how small molecules interact with their biological targets and to help translate these findings into impactful new treatments.
This position will focus primarily on advancing genetic screening technologies and techniques for drug target deconvolution. A variety of existing methods will be employed, adapted, and further developed.
- Develop and validate various complementary forward genetic screening approaches.
- Identify and validate new sequencing-based technologies.
- Develop project-specific experimental strategies, techniques, and procedures.
- Carry out research projects in collaboration with the principal investigator and the head of the Institute of Medicine.
- Contribute to writing and dissemination of research results.
- Support and manage internal/external collaborations in multidisciplinary projects.
- Assist with training wet lab and core facility members including technicians.
Preferred Qualifications
- Candidates with strong training and experience in the following fields are preferred:
- Small molecule drug discovery
- Forward genetic screening using mutagenesis or CRISPR/Cas9
- Cell culture and FACS
- Developing genetic reporters
- Computational analysis of genomic data.
Who You Are
- PhD in a relevant field and a documented record of outstanding professional achievement.
- Demonstrated high productivity and ability to complete studies in a timely manner.
- Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with a variety of audiences.
- Problem-solving skills sufficient to identify issues, conduct research, and develop innovative solutions.
- Ability to organize work and set priorities.
- Ability to focus on details to produce accurate, quality work driven by deadlines.
- Ability to work with others in a team.
- Computer skills, including advanced proficiency with Google apps, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint graphic skills to produce documents.
The target salary for the Scientist I level is: £42,500 - £69,000.
The target salary for the Scientist II level is: £50,000 - £90,000.
