Senior Director, Learning Strategy and Design (Remote Eligible)

The Senior Director of Learning Strategy and Design will play an impactful role owning the architecture for curricula, manage the relationships with relevant SMEs and stakeholders, and act as the central point of ownership, direction, and strategy for Okta’s technology and commercial organizations. They will be responsible for all aspects of learning to include: design, development, implementation and evaluation. The ideal candidate should be comfortable moving between strategy and development and producing webinar, self-paced, and video learning content in an agile manner.

What You'll Do:

  • Serves as a learning and development leader who can consult with senior stakeholders across the technology and commercial organizations, helping them to clarify performance outcomes, skill and competency needs, and learning objectives; provide guidance, suggested frameworks or methods, and opportunities to innovate.
  • Lead the planning, design and administration of the technology and commercial organizations learning roadmap.
  • Determine if training is an appropriate solution and the type of training needed to meet the need (instructor-led, eLearning, video, etc.).
  • Design and develop high-quality instructional materials and curricula for a variety of delivery types e.g., eLearning, video, instructor-led training. Targeting Okta’s internal technology and commercial audiences.
  • Manage content libraries for technology and commercial functions with experience using various Learning Experience Platforms (LXP), learning management systems (LMS) to house training, assessments, and tracking completion.
  • Design train-the-trainer experiences that prepare SMEs to deliver blended programs.
  • Partner within OktaU and Okta’s People Operations in the implementation and administration of learning technologies to include: LXP, LMS, authoring tools, video software, etc.
  • Manage project teams of internal stakeholders and external vendors to complete content reviews and approval processes according to established schedules and calendars.
  • Use data and analytics to assess the effectiveness of learning programs and provide recommendations to improve future learning initiatives.

About You:

  • 12+ years of experience in instructional development or design.
  • Natural at building relationships, partnering and influencing others.
  • Skilled and comfortable driving strategy as you are rolling up your sleeves.
  • Ability to be collaborative, influential and manage people who are not direct reports.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational/prioritization skills and ability to multi-task with close attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional systems design (ADDIE, Agile), and Kirkpatrick’s training evaluation levels.
  • Experience in applying modern instructional design practices and methodologies to support training, learning, and eLearning/web-based training development.
  • Practical use of Camtasia, Premier Pro, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Expertise in using an eLearning development tool, Articulate Storyline or Captivate.
  • An innovative design approach that is not limited by a particular tool or method.
  • Strong project management, planning and organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple large-scale projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with enterprise LXP, LMS.
  • Experience with analyzing data to draw conclusions, assess impact, and make recommendations for updates to training.
  • Resourceful, self-motivated, and able to independently prioritize shifting workload in a high growth, ever changing environment.
  • Strong growth mindset, always looking for ways to improve.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills - able to work well with employees in a remote environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required
  • Master’s degree in instructional development, instructional technology or adult learning theory is a plus.
