About the Role:
NYT Cooking helps you discover and cook the world's best recipes.
Our team is tight knit and interdisciplinary — we collaborate with our design, data, product, and editorial partners to prototype, develop and scale new features for both our responsive website and mobile apps. We are made up of small, focused groups tasked with building great cooking experiences on a variety of devices and platforms, including web, iOS and Android.
You will report to Charity Corcino, Engineering Manager.
The work location will be flexible to both remote or hybrid working models.
As a software engineer, you will:
From streamlining navigation patterns to iterating on our search functionality, you'll use data insights and machine learning capabilities to meet users where they are and surface recipes that are most relevant to them within our iOS app. You'll work with product, design, data, marketing, and editorial partners as a small team to encourage discovery through personalization and get users to cook with us more often.
You will provide form and direction within a growing team, partnering with leads to plan and estimate work. You enjoy mentoring teammates and finding creative technical solutions, appreciating the balance between conviction and collaboration. You will help us build a technical vision based on evaluating existing technologies, partnering with data science, design and platforms teams within the company, and building systems from scratch.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of full-time experience as an iOS Engineer
- 2+ years of experience building sophisticated app experiences using Swift
- Understanding iOS design patterns, memory management, and multi-threading
- Experience with the latest platform technologies like Swift UI, Combine, and Async/Await
You'll be an exceptional candidate if you have:
- Experience building subscription-based applications for end-users
- Experience building consumer-facing iOS applications

This role will require limited on-call hours. An on-call schedule will be determined when you join, taking into account team size and other variables.
