Senior Machine Learning Engineer

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer in our innovation team, you will design and implement innovative ML solutions to real world problems in challenging data environments. You will push the envelope of large-scale, AI-based geospatial applications. Your work will directly impact decisions from key stakeholders in emerging markets.
Responsibilities
- Lead a portfolio of high-impact innovation projects aiming at providing ML-based solutions to complex problems in data-scarce environments.
- Interact with customers, partners, and other stakeholders to understand their needs and explore potential solutions.
- Support the Head of Product Innovation in determining the company’s innovation strategy.
- Be proactively up to date with relevant literature on applied ML, ensure that our technology is relevant and validated.
Key Qualifications
- Overall Background and competence:
- Advanced degree (MS, PhD preferred) in Computer Science/Statistics/related field.
- In-depth understanding of fundamentals of statistics and mathematics underlying modern machine learning.
- Creative thinking and problem solving: ability to find effective solutions to complex problems in data-scarce environments.
Past Experience
- At least 3 years of professional experience in ML, in either academic research or industry.
- Previous work spanning a wide range of applications, data types, and modeling techniques.
- Project management experience, including supervising junior engineers.
- Ability to handle multiple tracks of work simultaneously in a fast paced-environment.
Coding and Engineering Qualifications
- Familiarity with cloud environments.
- Familiarity with databases and other warehousing/management tools (including SQL).
- Excellent Python coding and strong engineering practices.
- Familiarity with multi-threaded programming is a plus.
Personal Qualities
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
- Innovative, forward-thinking, and highly motivated
- Passionate about making a difference in developing nations and helping the under-served
Strongly Desirable
- Experience with causal inference problems.
- Experience with satellite images and geospatial data.
- Publications at top artificial intelligence and machine learning conferences such as ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, AISTATS, UAI.
