Senior Solutions Consultant – ALM / PLM

The Senior Solutions Consultant is a trusted technical advisor responsible for driving the pre-sales strategy and technical validation of PTC’s Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, with CAD serving as a complementary part of the broader engineering solution portfolio.
Working closely with Sales, Product Management, Partners, and Customer Success, this individual helps customers address complex product development, software engineering, systems engineering, and regulatory challenges through digital transformation and Digital Thread initiatives.
The role combines strong technical and process expertise across ALM and PLM environments with excellent customer engagement, consulting, and presentation skills. The Senior Solutions Consultant leads discovery sessions, solution demonstrations, technical evaluations, and proof-of-concepts, helping customers understand both the technical capabilities and business value of PTC’s solutions.
Success in this role requires a strong understanding of software and product development processes, requirements and test management, engineering change and configuration management, and cross-domain collaboration. The successful candidate must be able to translate customer challenges into compelling solution recommendations and confidently engage with technical teams, engineering leaders, IT stakeholders, and executives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the technical lead for ALM- and PLM-focused sales opportunities.
  • Partner with Account Managers to develop technical sales strategies, progress opportunities, and support pipeline growth.
  • Conduct customer discovery workshops to understand business challenges, software and product development processes, regulatory requirements, and digital transformation objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve collaboration between software, systems, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineering disciplines.
  • Deliver compelling demonstrations of ALM and PLM solutions tailored to customer requirements, industry use cases, and business priorities.
  • Lead technical evaluations, benchmarks, proof-of-concepts, and solution validation activities.
  • Support responses to RFPs, RFIs, technical proposals, and solution architecture requests.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to customers throughout the buying cycle, from initial discovery through technical validation and executive alignment.
  • Provide guidance on ALM, PLM, requirements management, test and quality management, engineering change management, configuration management, BOM management, software lifecycle processes, and product lifecycle best practices.
  • Articulate how ALM and PLM capabilities support Digital Thread, Digital Engineering, Model-Based Systems Engineering, traceability, compliance, and cross-functional product development.
  • Demonstrate how CAD and mechanical engineering data can be integrated into broader ALM and PLM processes where relevant.
  • Develop solution architectures that connect ALM and PLM with adjacent enterprise systems such as CAD, ERP, MES, software development toolchains, IoT, and manufacturing platforms.
  • Translate technical capabilities into measurable business outcomes, including faster product development, improved quality, reduced compliance risk, increased reuse, and improved engineering productivity.
  • Collaborate with Product Management and R&D to communicate customer feedback, competitive insights, and emerging market requirements.
  • Support partner enablement activities and participate in joint customer engagements.
  • Represent PTC’s technical expertise at customer meetings, industry events, workshops, and conferences.
  • Mentor junior consultants and contribute to knowledge-sharing, reusable demonstrations, and best practices across the Solutions Consulting organization.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • Five or more years of experience working with ALM, PLM, enterprise engineering software, or related technologies in a pre-sales, consulting, engineering, or implementation capacity.
  • Strong understanding of software development, systems engineering, product development, and engineering lifecycle processes.
  • Experience with ALM platforms such as PTC Codebeamer, IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management, Siemens Polarion, Jama Connect, Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with PLM platforms such as PTC Windchill, Siemens Teamcenter, Dassault Systèmes ENOVIA, Aras Innovator, or similar technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of one or more of the following areas:
    • Requirements management
    • Test and quality management
    • Software configuration and release management
    • Engineering change management
    • Product configuration management
    • Bill of Materials management
    • Variant management
    • Traceability and compliance
    • Product and software lifecycle governance
  • Understanding of agile, V-model, systems engineering, and hybrid product development methodologies.
  • Experience leading software demonstrations, discovery workshops, technical evaluations, and customer presentations.
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements into clear solution recommendations and business value propositions.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to engage effectively with software teams, engineering organizations, IT departments, business leaders, and executive stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of CAD and mechanical product development environments.
  • Familiarity with enterprise CAD platforms such as PTC Creo, SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX, Autodesk Inventor, or similar solutions.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 20–30%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Digital Thread, Digital Engineering, or Model-Based Systems Engineering initiatives.
  • Experience connecting ALM and PLM processes across software, systems, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineering domains.
  • Understanding of functional safety, cybersecurity, quality, and regulatory frameworks such as ISO 26262, Automotive SPICE, IEC 62304, IEC 61508, DO-178C, DO-254, or comparable standards.
  • Experience within Aerospace and Defense, Automotive, Industrial Manufacturing, Electronics, High-Tech, or Medical Device industries.
  • Understanding of integrations between ALM, PLM, CAD, ERP, MES, CI/CD, DevOps, IoT, and manufacturing systems.
  • Familiarity with APIs, data models, integration architectures, and enterprise solution landscapes.
  • Experience with SaaS, cloud-based engineering platforms, or hybrid deployment environments.
  • Previous experience supporting complex enterprise software sales cycles, strategic accounts, and multi-stakeholder buying processes.
  • Experience positioning PTC Codebeamer, Windchill, Creo, or comparable engineering solutions.
