Hatch Software Engineering apprenticeship program embodies Twilio's continued growth and commitment to a diverse and inclusive workplace. Hatch is a 6-month apprenticeship program at Twilio that aims to equip individuals having non-traditional technical backgrounds with industry experience in designing, developing and delivering production-ready software systems. We encourage anyone from an underrepresented group in tech to apply for this position. Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll:
- BE AN OWNER: Write high-quality, maintainable code that is well-documented and extensively tested
- BE INCLUSIVE: Collaborate with team to rapidly and safely iterate and deploy production systems
- DRAW THE OWL: Participate in product and architecture reviews to determine project deliverables
- RUTHLESSLY PRIORITIZE: Commit to, scope out and timebox tickets to deliver at a predictable cadence
- EMPOWER OTHERS: Contribute to regular team meetings to plan work on an ongoing basis
- WRITE IT DOWN: Give and receive constructive feedback as part of peer code reviews
Qualifications
Not all applicants will have skills that match a job description exactly. Required:
- Technical proficiency in one coding language and one application framework (such as React, Angular, Rails, Express, Flask, etc)
- Can build an interactive UI or backend web application
- Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases
- Entry level experience with version control, such as git
- A demonstrated growth mindset and ability to take feedback
- No prior professional software engineering experience (or less than one year)
- Experience learning coding through a bootcamp, community college or university courses (but no 4 year computer science degree), online courses or self taught.
- Strong empathy, collaboration and communication skills
Desired:
- Involvement with community groups supporting engineers from underrepresented communities in tech
- Experience with mentorship, teaching, or being mentored, even outside a technical context
- Interest in supporting and lifting up your fellow apprentices and teammates!
Location
This role will be remote based in the United States. Twilio will not be offering relocation for this position.
