Software Engineer, New Grad

Niantic is seeking a Software Engineer to develop software applications to extend Niantic’s products. You will have the opportunity to expand our platform capabilities, support our existing games such as Pokémon GO, Pikmin Bloom and Ingress and contribute to new titles. These technical challenges pertain to creating a single, coherent world-wide instance shared by millions of users.

We are seeking junior engineers with a good technical foundation, and self-starter mentality who are interested in growing. The ideal candidate loves to jump into the unknown, quickly learn from failures, and execute on concrete tasks on-schedule by exercising strong problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Write code and unit tests and consistently performs manual tests for pre-defined features with the support from their team.
• Give input toward technical designs and collaborate with other functions like product managers, designers, etc.
• Participate in code reviews, investigate bugs independently and propose solution, and serves as on-call first responder for software their team owns.
• Collaborate with cross-functional team members and stakeholders to cultivate strong working relationships with project team members, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, or a related technical field, or have a certification in Software Engineering with at least 6 months of post-certificate industry experience, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency knowledge in one of the following languages: Java, Go, C++, C# or Obj-C.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.
• Experience working on cross-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including synchronous interactions with others.

Plus If…

• Working knowledge of Python and SQL.
• Experience working with datastores, networking, utilizing compute infrastructure on hosting providers
• Familiarity with one or more open source projects, such as Redis, Prometheus, Grafana, ElasticSearch and Envoy.
• 3D game engine experience, particularly in Unity3D, or you have mobile or console game performance optimization experience.
