Spectral Geologist

Your Impact

• Work closely with the Mining Sales team and Exploration Practice Lead to develop cutting edge remote sensing proposals that meet the remote sensing needs for greenfield exploration projects for major mining firms 
• Join sales calls with prospective mining clients and represent the domains of exploration, deposit modeling, spectral geology/remote sensing geology and machine learning
• Engage with Descartes Labs Exploration and Data Science Leads to develop and deliver novel scope of work documents to help close deals with new mining clients
• Develop and propose modeling concepts that utilize the Descartes Labs Platform and the Advanced Mineral Exploration (AME) System to help clients improve exploration workflows and generate new mineral targets

What You Bring

• BSc, MSc, or PhD in a relevant scientific field such as Geoscience/Geochemistry, Remote Sensing or Data Science (preferably with expertise in remote sensing geology, spectral geology, or mineralogy for mineral exploration)
• 3+ years of experience in mineral mapping of ore deposits using remote sensing data such as ASTER, Sentinel-2, WorldView-3 or airborne hyperspectral imagery. This will include demonstrated knowledge in the alteration systems associated with prominent ore deposit models for a variety of commodities
• Proficiency in scientific computing with Python, preferably focused on  remote sensing/geospatial data, with exposure to machine learning principles, with the ability to quickly pick up new technical skills
• Strong problem solving skills, with the ability to research, develop, and implement solutions to novel problems
• Experience working with clients to develop proposals that utilize remote sensing geology and machine learning to solve exploration business problems
• Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as within a team
