Job Summary:

Under the direction and supervision of a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) assists in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, direct activities with students targeting the assessment and treatment of language, articulation, voice, fluency and use of assistive technology devices for communication.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of a state licensed SLP, utilize a web-based platform for delivery of services.
  • As directed by supervising SLP, assist with screenings and evaluations including and not limited to assisting with formal documentation, and preparing materials.
  • Administer routine speech and language tests as directed by supervisor when the licensed supervisor has assured proper training and administration of such tests.
  • Implement documented goals, services and accommodations developed by a supervising SLP.
  • Document student progress toward meeting established objectives and report information back to the supervising SLP.
  • Understand and follow ASHA’s Code of Ethics and Scope of Practice for the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant.
  • Understand and follow the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant scope of practice and regulations of the state(s) in which licensed.
  • Adhere to HIPAA regulations, including The Privacy Rule and The Security Rule.
  • Adhere to HIPAA privacy safeguards related specifically to speech therapy and teletherapy.
  • Adhere to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Adhere to DCT Standards of Practice Manual.
  • Maintain an organized, consistent and up-to-date schedule in Google Calendar and DCT platforms. Collaborate with teachers/staff regarding best times to schedule evaluations, screenings, and treatment.
  • Blog, hashtag, and post on social media outlets regarding professional experiences and background as desired.
  • Utilize Slack and DCT email for collaboration, communication and team building.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress, needs and overall service provision
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Experience & Other Requirements:

  • Associates degree in and/or graduation from a Speech-Language Pathology assistant certification program AND/OR a Bachelors degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders with a minimum of 70 hours field work/clinical experience from a Board-Approved program.
  • Must maintain a C-SLPA license throughout employment
  • Must meet all state credentialing requirements as needed

Technology:

  • Experience and comfort with use of various types of technology.
