About the Role:
Crunchyroll is looking for a high-visibility role on the global senior marketing team reporting directly to the CMO and working closely with the marketing leadership team at a time of exciting transformation. This essential role sits at the intersection of business consultancy/strategy, comprehensive marketing and communications planning and team/people operations. This role will focus on driving results through strong leadership alignment, deep operational rigor, and transformational strategic initiatives. This role will be operating at the heart of our marketing organization to create the marketing function of the future.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Marketing team operations:
- Partner with the CMO on major initiatives including annual strategy, planning and budgeting; quarterly reviews and reporting; Senior Marketing Leadership programming and wider global marketing community mobilization
- Identify, scope and manage major cross-functional transformational programs to evolve our function and our impact
- Advise CMO on progress, opportunities and roadblocks within top marketing priorities
- Execute all cross-functional projects (outside of marketing creative operations) that lead to more efficient day to day workflow management
- Oversee content and vision for all marketing team offsites, support marketing’s representation in company events and all-hands
- Run the semi-annual budgeting process across marketing functions and prep strategic planning decks for the purposes of strategic planning approvals
- Manage the OKR process for the marketing teams, working with leads to cascade to functional and regional teams and then reporting out on results
- Partner with CMO functional leads to reconcile budget to actuals and all re-forecasting; supporting all leads on visibility into budget and actuals variances
- Manage the bi-weekly marketing extended leadership team meeting to improve communication and buy-in across the extended leadership group to cascade down to respective teams
- Facilitate the weekly MLT meetings curating the agenda to focus on the highest priority topics and ensure the time is used efficiently and follow-ups are executed
Intra-team communications:
- Work with cross-functional departments to significantly improve communication between teams and from the SMT/CMO to working groups
- Foster connections and communication within teams by taking ownership over collaboration initiatives
- Working with Communications teams on all CMO communications both scheduled and ad hoc; oversee communications plans with key stakeholders as it results to organizational changes or key department and company announcements
- Advise on opportunities and needs for team outings, development opportunities and managing morale
Ad hoc projects:
- Work with key partners across Crunchyroll and SPE to assist on ad hoc projects to facilitate growth; examples of prior projects include:
- Develop framework with different senior management leaders to explore different partnership opportunities with Sony portfolio companies
- Work with the different research teams across Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment on developing list of research and CI needs and framework for how to get those done
- Plan an annual Anime Day for partners and executives that help educate key stakeholders across Sony on anime and identify collaboration opportunities
- Develop pitch decks for different sponsorship and distribution opportunities for Anime Awards and other events as needed
- Develop a casting strategy for key films leveraging key groups within SPE
Represent the CMO point of view:
- Become fluent in the storytelling of Anime and Crunchyroll and be able to represent Crunchyroll externally at business development meetings or with internal groups
- Oversee the development of all materials that support our key marketing priorities and important touchpoints with trusted partners (licensor meetings, roadshows to Japan, strategic initiative decks)
- Attend select cross-functional meetings as a proxy for the CMO and facilitate information flow as needed
Requirements
- Strategic thinker who also enjoys getting great work done
- Strong executive presence and proven cross-functional collaboration
- Minimum 10+ years experience and exposure to multiple functions in a fast-growing, agile marketing organization
- 2-3 years of management consulting experience preferred
- Ability to work in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment and meet deadlines. Effective and versatile with a bias for action and sense of urgency
- Proven ability to cultivate talent and nurture resources; build and drive extended and disparate teams
- Decisive voice well versed in best practices, proven methodologies, with a successful track record of leading complex problems and issues
- Careful attention to detail and project management skills, keen eye for identifying bottlenecks and streamlining communication
- Experience driving large initiatives from framing the problem, conducting research/analysis to building the business and operational plans through to driving execution to success is required
- Consistent cross-functional collaborator, and business partner, directly contributing to teams to achieve overall objectives
- Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative high-growth environment
- Ability to communicate honestly and directly, with sensitivity to multiple viewpoints
