Sr. Lead UX Designer, Infotainment

Rivian is looking for a Sr. Lead User Experience (UX) Designer to work with a world class team of UX, UI, HMI, Content, Motion, 3D designers, Design Producers, Researchers and Engineers to deliver exciting connected infotainment solutions that will enable new adventures and experiences for both the driver and passengers. In this design leadership role, you will be responsible for leading the team creating and defining the holistic infotainment user experience across our current and future consumer adventure vehicles.
This role will shape the core infotainment UX across our Driver, Center, & Rear Displays and will focus on core application and interaction designs in the areas of media & entertainment, productivity, climate, profiles & personalization, voice assistant, gaming, and more. You will be shaping the next wave of innovation around these product experience areas, while bringing coherency and unity to the designs that span across the infotainment system. The work spans many forms and exists in many areas including first surface touch areas, applications, driver aid widget, vehicle settings, 3rd party services, etc. This is about designing end-to-end experiences, not just screens.

Ideal candidates will have a combination of creative vision, collaboration and communication skills, & technical understanding to complement their creative spirit and interaction expertise. In this role, you will further build on your expertise of interaction & usability patterns, wireframing, visual fidelity & prototyping your designs to effectively communicate the product intent & design nuance to the cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a cross-discipline infotainment pod team to deliver differentiated in-vehicle infotainment experiences
- Craft intuitive and unique user experiences around a wide array of core infotainment features (media & entertainment, productivity, climate, profiles & personalization, voice assistant, gaming, and more)
- Design multi-modal experiences (audio, visual, touch, haptics) that span the system that are designed for drivers and passengers to easily perform their actions safely and effectively while creating muscle memory and repeatablility
- Generate design storyboards, user journeys, sketches & concepts, user flows, wireframes, micro-interactions & prototypes
- Create detailed design documentation of your feature work for implementation
- Collaborate with system engineers to define vehicle driving behavior and how it relates to the driver experience
- Input into future electronics and hard controls requirements.
- Partner with user researchers to gather consumer data, validate concepts, test prototypes & apply findings into you designs
- Work closely with other team members including UI, HMI, Content, Research, UX Producers, Product Managers, Engineers to receive critical feedback and iterate to make the best possible product
- Present work to the executive & leadership teams
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of relevant work experience designing touch, voice, in-vehicle or transportation solutions
- Experience with design leadership, creative direction, coaching & mentoring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, HCI, Computer Science or equivalent
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to analyze and synthesize complex design challenges in order to support an informed, creative process
- Ability to zoom out and see the bigger picture, while zooming in to rationalize and perfect the nuanced details
- Advanced proficiency in design and prototyping tools, such as Figma and ProtoPie
- Bonus points for 3D prototyping skills in After Effects, Blender or similar tools
- Comfortable with high paced environments
- Willingness to dive into projects with a blank slate & learning/listening mindset
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Able to have a spirited & articulated debate with fellow designers and cross-functional members
- An online portfolio showcasing your design work and ethos
