Staff Software Engineer - MetaMask (Money Movement)
TLDR
Lead architecture and delivery of fiat-to-crypto money movement systems at global scale, building secure, high-performance onboarding, payments, and asset movement across platforms.
You will lead the technical vision and execution for money movement systems, ensuring scalable and secure fiat-to-crypto experiences across platforms. You will design and deliver resilient infrastructure while mentoring engineers and driving cross-functional alignment.
- Define and lead the technical architecture for fiat-to-crypto payment flows, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security across systems
- Build and enhance backend and full-stack systems using modern web technologies, supporting seamless integration with third-party payment providers
- Guide and mentor junior and mid-level engineers across backend, frontend, mobile, and desktop domains
- Partner with product managers, designers, analysts, and platform teams to deliver cohesive cross-platform experiences
- Own architectural decisions tied to revenue-critical user journeys, ensuring robustness and long-term maintainability
- Drive engineering best practices including code quality, testing, observability, and system documentation
- Oversee performance, reliability, and operational excellence of money movement services
- Collaborate across platform teams to unify user experiences across mobile apps and browser extensions, including MetaMask
- 5+ years of full-stack or backend engineering experience, including Staff-level or equivalent technical leadership responsibility
- Strong experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React Native, and modern distributed web architectures
- Proven track record of driving technical strategy and delivering impact across multiple teams or workstreams
- Experience building or integrating payment systems, fintech platforms, or financial infrastructure
- Strong understanding of APIs, third-party integrations, system security, and failure-mode design
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading cross-functional technical initiatives in remote-first environments
- Strong communication skills with the ability to align technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Solid grounding in engineering fundamentals including testing, maintainability, and scalable system design
- Bonus: experience with fiat on/off-ramps, DeFi systems, or Web3 infrastructure and wallets such as MetaMask
- Competitive compensation package (US base salary range: $146,000 – $218,000 USD, excluding bonus, equity, and additional benefits)
