Strategic Partnerships Manager

About the role

More than 600,000 merchants around the world are powered by Shopify, and many of them are looking for help building and customizing their stores. The Shopify Partner Program includes a global network of freelancers and agencies that provide Shopify merchants with custom commerce solutions. This community is unbelievably important to Shopify and to the success of our merchants.  

The Strategic Partnerships team at Shopify is responsible for identifying, attracting, and growing these partnerships to drive new merchant growth and add value to our existing merchant base. The team is organized by service verticals, which means each Strategic Partnerships Manager becomes a domain expert in a specific service that our partners offer and our merchants need -  Design, UX, Marketing, and Business Operations to name a few. We help partners grow their business with Shopify by identifying opportunities for them to fill, giving them visibility within our ecosystem, presenting co-marketing opportunities, etc. Our team works with partners around the world, with a focus on our core markets - Canada, USA, United kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. We identify high potential leads in these markets and nurture those leads into becoming active, high-performing partners. It’s common for the team to research and attend events relevant to their areas of focus as a way to meet and acquire more partners. We also play a pivotal role in shaping Unite - our annual Partner and Developer conference.

Responsibilities:

  • Understand the market landscape in your assigned service vertical - including leaders in the space, problems businesses are solving for, pain points, and emerging trends. Develop a strategy for growth using these insights.
  • Identify new partnership opportunities that have high potential to drive new merchants to Shopify or add significant value to our current merchant base
  • Build relationships with our top existing partners and give them the tools they need to continue helping Shopify merchants grow their businesses.
  • Drive partner activities, execute go-to-market strategies, develop sales and marketing initiatives, and manage vertical growth and development
  • Negotiate commercial agreements with our partners as needed
  • Develop strong relationships with internal teams that align with your vertical. Represent Shopify at partner and industry events (including attending, speaking, panels, etc.)

Requirements for the Role:

  • Experience in a business development or partnerships role
  • Experience managing high-value accounts
  • Get shit done mentality

Bonus Experience

  • Similar partnerships experience in a tech company
  • Agility and adaptability in a rapidly growing, constantly changing environment
  • An analytical and entrepreneurial mind
  • A passion for retail, technology, and commerce
