Technologist / Infrastructure Architect
Job Responsibilities
- Designs, implements, and maintains enterprise infrastructure architecture spanning on-premises data centers, network systems, and multi-cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) environments.
- Develops infrastructure roadmaps, reference architectures, and technology standards to support the scalability, reliability, and security of enterprise systems.
- Leads data center modernization and virtualization initiatives, including server consolidation, storage architecture, and hybrid cloud integration.
- Designs and evaluates network architecture – including LAN/WAN, routing, switching, load balancing, and firewalls – to ensure performance, redundancy, and compliance with security requirements.
- Participates in the analysis and development of long-term strategic and operating plans to align infrastructure investments with organizational and mission objectives.
- Collaborates with engineering and operations teams to establish infrastructure-as-code, automation, and monitoring/observability frameworks across the environment.
- Ensures infrastructure designs comply with applicable federal and agency security and architecture standards (e.g., NIST, RMF, FedRAMP) and supports system authorization activities.
- Evaluates analytically and systematically problems of capacity, performance, and resiliency, and develops appropriate corrective action and disaster recovery/business continuity plans.
- Produces technical reports, infrastructure diagrams, capacity plans, briefing materials, and other technical documentation as required.
Required Skills/Qualifications
- Extensive experience designing and implementing enterprise infrastructure architectures.
- Deep knowledge of network engineering, including routing, switching, load balancing, and firewall/perimeter design.
- Strong background in cloud infrastructure design, readiness assessment, and migration across AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.
- Familiar with Enterprise Architecture Framework TOGAF or FEA with understanding of Application Reference Model (ARM) and Infrastructure Reference Model (IRM).
- Strong knowledge of virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and modern data center operations.
- Proven experience with infrastructure-as-code and automation tooling (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, or similar).
- Expertise in developing infrastructure roadmaps, technical reference models, and technology standards.
- Skilled in capacity planning, performance tuning, and disaster recovery/business continuity planning.
- Solid understanding of storage architecture (SAN/NAS), backup, and data protection solutions.
- Proficient in hybrid and multi-cloud architecture, including cloud networking and identity/access integration.
- Knowledgeable in security architecture, including Zero Trust principles, network segmentation, and compliance frameworks.
- Experienced in evaluating emerging infrastructure technologies and performing alternatives analysis for technology investments.
- Competent in vendor evaluation and stakeholder coordination for infrastructure procurement, deployment, and lifecycle management.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering, or a related field
- Master’s Degree or higher (preferred – not required)
- Years of experience can substitute for a degree
- Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP, CCNA/CCNP, VCP, or similar) preferred
