Tribe Engineering Lead

Tribes are at the heart of our organisation. But they can’t exist without an Engineering Lead. Do you have the right capabilities to guide our Tribe through the digital jungle together with the Tribe Lead and Product & Design Lead?

Hold on. What exactly do we understand under ‘Tribe’?

In The Pocket is organised in tribes. In its simplest form, a tribe is a team of teams. Tribes exist to reduce complexity and facilitate service delivery, capacity planning and internal mobility in a scalable way. Tribes are managed by a cross-functional leadership team, consisting of a Tribe Lead, an Engineering Lead (that’s you) and a Product & Design Lead. This holy trinity holds responsibility for realising the tribe’s mission towards their clients and people. As a Tribe Engineering lead, you’ll oversee all engineering responsibilities in your tribe.

Responsibilities:

Focus on people & roles

Together with the tribe leadership, you create a ‘People First culture’ where Software Engineers, Seniors and Principals can unlock their full potential. You are confident and competent at managing people and teams where you:

  • Work with and lead a range of professionals with different technology backgrounds.
  • Guide people in their career paths by helping to identify and realize opportunities for personal growth
  • Ensure people get the right mentorship and coaching to succeed in their roles
  • Maintain and evolve your tribe’s Engineering team in terms of skills, seniority and diversity
  • Build and evolve teams to match people with projects and determine the best fit for the challenge at hand
  • Grow the team in close collaboration with the recruiting team, setting and keeping high standards in the evaluation process
  • Create a stimulating environment for people to share knowledge and develop expertise in close collaboration with the communities of practice
  • You work closely with the tribe leadership to define strategy, operations, and communications that guide the tribe's products and clients to success.

Take up engineering leadership

You have mastered the process of continuous discovery and delivery and have developed a strong product vision. This enables you to guide the tribe towards successful outcomes.

  • You have solid experience in leading and managing a team of software engineers, including setting goals and objectives, providing mentorship and guidance, and managing performance and budgets
  • You develop and implement our engineering strategy in alignment with the goals and objectives of the CTO and the overall organisation
  • You oversee reliability, performance, security and scalability goals to ensure ITP quality is delivered by all teams.
  • You stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and best practices in software development and engineering management and incorporate these into our processes
  • You represent technological leadership towards the tribe’s (most important) clients and grow these relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience within a software development environment
  • Solid background in software product development and agile delivery
  • The ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at senior management levels is key to success in this role
  • Your communication skills are excellent: talking, writing, listening.
  • You are passionate about all things digital, including strategy
  • You are organised and composed, also when working under pressure
  • You think in terms of solutions, never in terms of problems
