The New York Times is seeking an experienced product leader to create digital experiences and scalable technology that delivers on Wirecutter’s vision to be the go-to destination for anyone looking for inspiration and advice on what to buy.

Since joining The Times portfolio of products, Wirecutter has grown tremendously in readership and revenue. The product is at an exciting inflection point as we reimagine shopping advice, develop more features and tools to enable personalized and relevant experiences for readers, and become an indispensable resource for millions more people across the country.

The head of product will report to the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Wirecutter, and work collaboratively with the heads of engineering, creative, operations, and editorial at Wirecutter to set and deliver on a robust, multi-year product strategy. The role will be responsible for leading a talented team of product managers and building a culture that is motivated, diverse, equitable, and inclusive. 

Responsibilities:

  • Translate Wirecutter’s vision and strategy into actionable product roadmaps

  • Lead a highly motivated product management team to develop new and bold features and offerings that drive user growth and habituation, enable editorial agility, and improve partner satisfaction

  • Drive a best-in-class product development process with a focus on speed and results

  • Create clear measures of success that correspond to business goals, communicate progress across the organization, and ensure an ongoing understanding of impact 

  • Attract and develop talent to be best-in-class at what they do, with shared expectations across the entire team of what great looks like

  • Build productive relationships across Wirecutter, collaborating closely with design, engineering, user research, data & insights, editorial, commerce, and others to achieve business objectives

  • Champion and cultivate an inclusive, collaborative and ambitious culture that seeks out diverse viewpoints, encourages risk-taking and learning, and rewards great teamwork

The ideal candidate has the following basic qualifications:

  • 10+ years of product management experience, with 3+ years in a leadership role developing consumer-facing products

  • Experience scaling a product in terms of audience, revenue, and the operational structure that supports that growth

  • Enthusiasm for hearing and considering diverse points of view, and comfort with making decisions when surrounded by divergent opinions

  • Experience sharing roadmap and decisions widely across the company to ensure understanding and awareness in all functions and levels 

  • Strong experience developing culture and talent on a product team, including of managers

  • Strong aptitude in data-informed decision-making

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Passion for Wirecutter, and knowledge of the product recommendation and/or ecommerce space

  • Experience working with editorial organizations is a plus

  • Wirecutter is a distributed team, and past experience working with remote teams is a plus

The annual base pay range for this role is between:
$250,000$300,000 USD
